mostly out of curiosity im very big into doing everything to my z myself mostly for the learning experience iv done all my bolt ons and repairs myself though i think the biggest project was the clutch install. Once i get out of the military i want to take up a side job with a shop and eventually become a car/engine guru as my hobby

Back when I was young and dumb, I did paint a 1959 Austin Healey Sprite in my parents garage. That was probably in 1965 or so. It actually turned out pretty good. It just takes time, patience and proper preparation.

I worked at an aircraft repair job where when we were done overhauling a unit we had to paint it. I learned I am the worlds worst painter and would never do my 350z that harm lol.
Sounds like your on the right track, get a job at a body shop or take a class at least.

We did my car in house, and we'll be doing Kwame's as well.
Can't say it was enjoyable...but it was rewarding. Tons and tons of hours though, even when you're not changing colors or repairing stuff. Kwame's car has a bit of damage to repair, nothing major. My car had none, and it still took an ungodly number of hours though.

Would it be possable to turn your garage into a booth with hepa filters over intake and exhaust fans and maybe a small space heater near intake to kinda bake the paint? (granted you have all the proper painting equipment to do a proffesional job and maybe tested a time or to on old junk cars) correct me if i am totally wrong i know they have curing lights but a nice hot summer day in Cali would be pretty similair i bet? This would give you everything minus the skills to have a near perfect paint job!

id hope i was thinking of doing the same thing or at least the prep work myself i wouldnt be changing colors or anything just respraying the oem chrome silver my cars gotten really ratty looking with a tiny dent in a front fender and another tiny one on a rear fender but if you look close theres tons of scratches and everything else form natural wear and tear
i know there are a few different paint methods out there but what would the process mostly be
primer sand primer sand paint sand paint clear coat? that's what my friend told me at least and he has some experience in the field
also because the paint is crap on the z is better just to sand down to the paint or the primer during prep work?

BEFORE attempting it on ur Z, go to a local junk yard and buy some different body panels. Fenders, hoods, door skiins, etc..the more curves or angles the better...and practice practice practice. you'll findyour own technique eventually. take a class or intern at a body shop for while is the ideal learning method.
