Default Any ideas if an Emergency +/- port ?

REDONE.

I have the viper alarm. So what i usually do when the car is home is that i leave the key in the ignition. I do not have a spare key either. Last night out of nowhere the batt dies with the key inside and me left with the remote in hand with no communication. So rather then break into the car and perhaps damage something on the outside, or disrupt the window roll down feature if the door is already open when i start to charge it. I called my buddy at the dealer and he told me that there was at one time or another some kind of ER port somewhere behind the bumper to where i am able to power and ground the vehicle so that i can just use the remote to open the door and problem solved. He unforn cannot remember exactly where it is or if it even exists. So i was wondering if anyone here has heard of this and could tell me where it might be. If not then whatever i'll just break into the Z since it's pretty easy. I just did not want to chance scratching it although i will use some other means to prevent such a thing.

This is an "if" this port exists kind of question. I don't need to be told how to break into the Z, thanks!

Please try to use complete sentences and your post will make more sense. From what I can tell, you locked your keys in the car and only have your keyless entry remote. Since you are talking about "charging" it I am assuming the battery is dead in the remote. Do you have another vehicle or can somebody else take you to the store to buy a new battery for the remote? I can't imagine there is any way to "charge" the remote at all, much less on the body of the car... I think your friend is yanking your chain. Then again, you may have some sort of special aftermarket alarm system, but we don't know that because you didn't give us any details to work with.

I agree with ms350z. Try using complete sentences (capitalization also helps make it easier to read) and thoroughly explain the problem. All I've got so far is:
  • You've locked your keys in your car.
  • You have your keyless remote?
  • You know someone at a dealership

Not nearly enough to help.

I've never heard of this emergency port on the 350z. I would say your options at this point are to break into the car or find a way to pop the hood latch from beneath the car and jump the battery. I would suggest carrying a spare key in your wallet in the future, if your battery dies or you lose your keys/remote you can still get into your car without breaking in.

i kind of figured it was to good to be true, since i've never seen such a ting when having the Z apart. But doesn't hurt to ask.

yeah i was gonna just jack it up and pop the latch.

For the future i will make my own +/- port hidden somewhere, or at the least make a secret hood latch pop hidden somewhere. Either or.

Or take your keys out of the vehicle.

The mechanical locks work without power.

I know of no emergency power ports on the outside. If you put your own in beware that if you connect them up to the battery ... that dead battery is going to want to start charging off your emergency power source. That means the wires need to be big enough to support that charging current and the wires need to be of a substantial gauge to carry that current. In my experence a dead battery can draw 60 amps for a short period and would recommend 8 gauge cables.

If you know you don't have a spare key why not just remove your keys from your ignition in the future? That way you can manually unlock your door in the event that your battery dies in the future, just the way Nissan designed the car.

yeah i know i should of taken the key out. Stupid me.

If i made a power port it won't be a back up charge system. It will only be "in case" this happens again i can just use the wires i will make to put a quick charge just in order to get into the vehicle.

But i am probably going to make a hood pop cable extra somewhere hidden.
