So Im looking into getting new bulbs..... maybe the 6000k or the 8000k hids. I was wondering is it illegal to have certain hids on your car as low or high beam?
I think it depends on what county you live in. In Honolulu anything that is not stock is illegal. It's just that so many people have them now, as long as they're not blue, purple, or pink most cops will not pull you over just for that.
On a side note, I can't stand people who install HID lights on cars that came with halogen lights. Do they not understand that HIDs are focused differently than halogen? When they drive past you, it's blinding........spare the extra money and get projector housings! Oh and for some reason, people who do add HIDs to a car that never had them tend to drive around with them on during the day.....as if they are showing them off. Not impressed.
I agree w/ you on that. Lots of times it's not even angled right, and it's aimed high. Or those lifted trucks that get them with the hid fog lights too!!
i believe anything above 4300 is unlawful in the US. Diferent states have different laws though. That is why Phillips does not make an actual 6000k or 8000k bulb.

actually phillips does make a 6000K capsule, but output is dramatically less than their 4300K offering. The 6000K capsule is called the "ultinon"
All that said HID is about putting the most light on the road and like I said, 6000K or 8000K capsules have dramtically less light output than the 4300K offerings. If you want color, get your cut-off's modified
I cannot stand those cheesy looking after-market blue lights people put on their cars. It produces horrible light output and blinds other drivers. Either get the real thing or don't do it at all.

+1
I saw some cops running aftermarket lights here in Hilo Not setting the greatest example there. I do think adjusting lights and installing the right housing is important though. Makes me think that if their lights are shining that high, their highlights would be useless.
doesnt matter you will just get a repair order. You swap lightbulbs for inspection then swap them again. Its not that hard to swap them. i gor from 10k to 12k violet.
Not really, see, I do functional things to my car like, turbos, suspension and if I want better lighting, I actually do things that will improve the amount of light on the road.... I recently upgraded my assemblies to the 2006+ bi-xenon projectors. I don't slap in ricer bulbs and hope the homeys give me street cred
LOL@the dudes rolling during the day with their lights on (we're all very impressed). I've trained my fiance to be able to tell the fake HID/xexons from the real ones. I find it hilarious when she points them out and calls them a ricer.
