It'd be tough to damage the coil during shipping, but even if it was it should have been noticed during the install. Your installer also should have tweaked the gains, so unless you messed with the settings or cranked the HU passed the clipping point, frying the coil shouldn't have happened either...unless the installer sucks. If none of the above, it was just faulty and should be replaced under warranty.
Were the speakers making physical contract with the door panel? I had that problem with mine for a while.
kickpods relocate the speakers to the kickpanels, and fire them more towards the listeners. That'll give you better staging, and much better sound quality. They also seal the speakers better, making them more efficient
