Default Help indentifying and replacing a part.

So I just replaced the rear hatch struts on my boyfriends 350z as a surprise for his birthday. I somehow managed to do this alone and without any knowledge of the installation process; however I broke a piece off of the trunk hatch. It is a small, black, plastic spring-like piece that is located on either side of the hatch. I believe it is some sort of stopper so that the trunk doesn't slam shut. I definitely snapped the plastic so it can not be fixed. I just need to know what this piece is called and where I can purchase a new one. Thank you!

Katrina

Just bring it to a nissan dealer parts desk and say "I need one of these."

there are two trunk poppers that consist of the spring and the covers that go over them. do what reelbigandy suggested - they'll be able to get you one. it should be about twenty dollars, just hand screw it in.

Thank you everyone for your help. I called Nissan explained the part, they told me what it was and the part # (84415). I freaked so I bought it through the dealership, $78 later (more expensive than the struts I might add). Now to wait for the boyfriend and the wrath that comes with breaking his car. Dun, dun, dun.
I'm now only going to stick to maintaining my vehicle.

don't tell him the part broke, replace it and then let him know you fixed it.

I hope you got him good struts though. Anything new and less than $78.00 could be questionable unless you had some sort of discount or rebate. Anyway good job.
