Default Headlight ballast problem/question. Thoughts?

My headlights have been taken apart to remove the yellow strip to have a clear strip installed. The reseal of the headlights is pretty good but some mositure can get behind the light, but then it dries out so I can live with it.

The problem I'm having now is that after a big rain storm the other day my headlights didn't turn on. High beams, blinker, etc were all fine. This morning, the headlights came back on. I'm guessing that water got on the ballast and prevented them from coming on, but then when the water dried everything worked.

My questions is, what can I do to prevent it from happening or fix it? I don't want to be stuck with no lights in rain storms or replacing parts all the time. (I had to drive with the high beams on.)

Thanks

Re-bake and re-seal headlights correctly before you perma damage something.

Yeah, I'll have to do that.

Is the ballast apart of the headlight assembly?

I assume that water and corrosion are:

a. Not allowing a proper ground
b. Short circuit somewhere

Soon you will either blow a fuse or fry something inside the headlamp.

For sure, the body shop said they would re-bake and re-seal the lights and hunt down the electrical problem, but I can't take the car in for over a week due to my schedule. Would you say that it is ok to drive the car in the daytime with the headlights off? Thanks

I had the same problem. the best way to do this is by removing the old sealant with a heat gun and flat head screw driver then apply new sealant. good luck

I suppose to be useful, I'll post the resolution. It was the wiring behind the headlight. The body shop resealed the headlights so now no water gets behind them anymore and they replaced the wiring. Gtg.

You are correct, I recently removed the amber strip and did not fully seal up the headlights. The ballast (mounted on the bottom of the headlight assembly) will not fire up if any moisture gets into it. We had to use a heat gun to dry it out and it worked again.

After we resealed the housing carefully the second time, there is no longer moisture, and never had the HIDs fail on me again.
