Default Extinguisher revisit

Ok. Long story short. Driving around yesterday and one of the wires to an amp came loose and fell into the back of the car where I couldn't get to it.

It started arching and smoke started BILLOWING out of the back.

I made a mad dash pulling everything out trying to find the wire before something caught.

All in all. I found the wire, put everything back, rewired securely. No harm done, but could have been way worse had something taken to the spark or I wasn't around when it happened.

I want to get an extinguisher. I'm aware that they won't do anything for engine fires, but for small electrical fires, I don't think it could hurt to have one handy. Though I have a couple ideas where to mount it, I want to see if anyone has any suggestions of somewhere out of the way, but stil accessible.

I know this has been hashed over a few times. But the threads I read only had a few pics, but were mostly people flaming about how pointless it is yada yada.

No flaming this time. If you think it's dumb, that's fine, just ignore this thread. But if you have some good suggestions post em up!

Thanks.

I can't remember the brand name, but there is some kind of extinguisher out there that a lot of the racers are using. It doesn't ruin everything when you use it like the dry chemical ones will do. No residue, etc. You definitely want to look into something like that.

Good idea. I didn't know they made something like that. I'll spend some time with google and post what I come up with.

What you may want is a Halon extinguisher. Ever hear of fuses?

Fuse did not blow for some strange reason.

It was the distribution block, so the main fuse should have blown, but it didn't. dunno why.

Mine's under the passenger seat - out of the way and easy to get to.

It should have blown the fuse when it made contact and arched the first time unless your running fuseless power wire to the rear correct?

Using the sparco seat bracket that came with the seats - no rubbing or anything , can move the seat fine.

There's a fuse. It was from the power distribution block, should have blown the main fuse, but it did not.

I may mount it where he did under the passenger seat. Nice spot, looks good.

Use a smaller fuse(s). Obviously what's in place is providing zero protection.

Wow...this is embarrassing.

I just checked the fuse block....

I ummm....put a direct connection in it a while back to test something...and I guess I never put the fuse back in.

Oops.
