Default Headlight Modification - pics

Wasnt a fan of the amber reflectors on the pre-06 headlights. I had them removed but I didnt like the empty look removing the deflectors. I was considering purchasing the clear ones but it still seemed a bit empty.

So this weekend I considered painting the old amber strips chrome to match the headlights and fill the empty gap. While I was in there, figured I try out some leds like the newer headlights. Decided to go with 3, Z's number right?

Anyways, heres what I came up with.

Heres a pic before the transformation. No reflector:

Dremel is your friend:

3mm leds. They are very small and not too bright.

After paint and reinstall:

I wanted the leds to be subtle and not too bright.

The same for the parking lights below it. Both arent as bright as the camera picked up:

Tried to take some night shots but couldnt get the shutter speed done right. The HIDs flood them out when on. And these are white, not blue as translated by the camera:

Cost me about $10 total for paint and leds (ebay). Taking everything apart and installing it was a pia though.

Nice! I was thinking for those wanting the audi led style, why not put leds along the strip? I'd like to see what that looks like, although I am not really a fan of audi-led look-a-likes.

I agree. The R8 look is a bit overdone I think, and instead I really like the 07+ leds on our newer Zs. But not enough to pay the ridiculous prices people put them up for here in the classifieds.

The only problem I foresee with this setup is if one of the leds go out. I'm screwed with having to take everything apart again...
