So what tools did you have to use to actually cut everything out? I feel like with everything removed and really the only thing that seems to be holding are the spot welds. I'm feeling like I can use my grinder to get the job done since that metal is so thin and all...

um ya, I originally started with my grinder, but that got messy really quick and only gets you so far. but you will need it to get to access to couple welds, and cut that black bracket by the cigarette lighter and ECU. BE CAREFUL GRINDING INSIDE YOUR CAR, sparks did a number to my windsheild only bad thing to happen during the whole project. but is nearly impossible to see and at the very top of the window, and if I get a tinted brow no one will ever know. still very very about it

best tool - one of those spot weld drill bits with the spring loaded tip and replaceable cutting heads. $20 at specialty tool shop, home depots and lowes WONT have them. cuts right around the outside of each weld. that way you don't end up with a bunch of holes, although you might still go through a couple times, WELL WORTH IT!!! and a corded drill unless you want to keep rechargin.

you'll prolly have to drill anywhere from 30-60 welds!!!!
I also took out my passenger seat. so I had a place to "be" while I was workin

oh and don't underestimate how thin that is, it doesn't come out super easy. our entire car is made out of this thin metal, its all in how its bent and welded together that gives it strength.

but if you reckon yourself able to be a handy SOB you should have no prob gettin it out.

**def drill more than you grind though**

never really added it up. way way more time than money

lets see here,

$250 g35 seat ($125+125 shipping)
$200 on 4 RF speakers
~$300 in supplies (wood, fiberglass resin, fiberglass mat, paint brushes, black vinyl, 100% polyester fabric, black spray paint. misc. hardware, sand paper)

things i didnt have that cost me -
$80 new milwaukee die grinder (old one pooped out)
$25 spring loaded spot weld bit + extra heads

now if you had to pay someone to remove the metal (recommend) or build you speaker panels, the cost would easily be double that

also still havent bought the roll bar i want, which will now need to be custom made too. or the random gt-spec bars i want to add to the underbody (add back a lil strength)

so for any1 about to PM me about doing this yourself - tired of repeat messages,
- this will not (realistically) fit humans, although i did it the other day....
- i will not recommend you do this cause i want to be the only one, plus only one other guy has told me he was doing it for his dogs and not with the hope of fitting their child or small friend haha
otherwise go for it

I just wanted to thank you for leading the way on this (and SQBassHead for following in your footsteps). I am in the middle of doing the same thing with my roadster. At first I was just going to cut away a little bit to fit two speaker boxes and do some custom fiberglass panels that I can take in and out around my rollcage. But knowing that you both had done it in coupes, I'm tackling removing it all.

I have a few extra challenges since the hinges for the tonneau must still be located in the same spots and must be functional, the top needs room to fold down into that area, etc., but your two threads are a wealth of helpful info for me.

Thanks again!

Cool. He did it to save weight. I'm doing it to add fun.

I know that my ZR will always be "thick and curvy" and is never going to be competitive in any class, so I figure that it's more fun to just add more power and not worry about being competitive, than try to drop pounds and sacrifice fun & enjoyment.

Great work! But I think most people interested in doing this are all thinking the same thing... its better than sticking someone in the trunk!

For those of us that dont want a G35, and are all Extremely Optimistically hoping that it will fit a person though, do you think there is any way it can be made a little more passenger friendly? (maybe trimming down the foam in the seats to sit lower?)

Hey, glad to see people still looking at this.

Kinda bummed I haven't seen any1 else try this, On the otherhand I still love being the only one.

There would be way more room if u didn't put the g35 backseat in. Both the bottom and back are quite thick. I'm sure you could thin them down. But i don't think it would look nice/oem.

Like i said before you can get a third passenger back there but they won't like it, and will have to sit sideways. Best thing to do is move pass seat in the forward postion to give them a lil leg room.

Since people keep askin if humans will fit in my backseat I'd like to know if a g35 will (realistically) hold any of us. Even with the leg room and headroom I just don't see it happening.

Any chance you could get a pic with the bottom off too to see how much head room there is to work with if you cut down the foam some?

Also, would it be possible to cut out any space to move leg room back at the base?
