Problem
Answer
gutting hood may not be a good idea especially toward the front windshield area.
i drove around with my hood and hood spacers on. The end of the hood toward the front windshield shakes, flexes up and down at speed. Hope it doesn't stress the clear coat or carbon fiber over time.

I don't want to make a new thread so I'll ask here.
when you install sparco hood pins, do you install em so that when you close the hood and pins, you have to push down on the hood?
don't think im making much sense..
basically, does the hood have to be kept closed by hood pins, not the latch?

so your wanting to cut all the reinforcement out from under the hood skin? ive never seen what a carbon fiber one looks like underneath but cutting it out of a steel hood would be a problem and i got to imagine a cf hood would be a problem too. not only are you taking the structure of the hood out of it causeing it to be thin, but that structure is also there for collision reasons. with no reinforcement underneath it, itd probably shatter in a front collision.

I can’t imagine the good has much crash impact value (maybe a little??)
if I remember correctly an OEM hood is around 21lbs?? And gutted its around 14lbs …
you will see the hood flex & move around a bit at speeds over 100mph - 120mph … was somewhat worried about it when I did the Kansas event.
not horrible for free weight reduction over the front of the car…
