Default shift ****...

wassup, i'm the newby in this site, had my 350 for about 7 months now and i'm replacing the stock shift **** with a nismo black aluminum one, and when i went to go twist off the stock one it felt like something else was twisting with it, and it feels like it's breakable....so my question is, how do u remove the stock shift ****....????

simply wrap it to protect it and use a wrench and unscrew it

are you sure that won't damage the transmission? The shifter stem seems to turn with the ****...

see that's what i was saying the shifter stem moves with the **** and the stem feels kinda delicate...

They say to use another vise grip to hold the linkage while you twist the **** off.

that post doesnt really apply. after alot of searching i have yet to find a thread that goes through step by step how to remove it properly. apparently you have to remove the plastic console piece to get under the shift boot...i just gave up on installing the shifter i bought...didn't feel like risking it.

installed my sparco x-speed shifter today thanks to your instructions. unfortunately, even with the cloth i used to protect the ****, it was damaged during removal. Oh well. Didn't like the stock shifter feel so it wont be going back on anyway.

I did remove the console piece and clamp the lower part of the shifter rod with vice grips while turing the shift ****, so I know there was no tranny damage at least. Thanks again for the help.

just got a aluminum nismo shifter with all the instructions with it, clamping and all
