2008 350z iPhone pocket?
I'm considering attempting use the spot where the seat heater switches go for a iPhone pocket with connection at the bottom. Anyone ever do this? I don't have heated seats (nor need them) and I'm not sure what the far left switch normally would be anyway. What I need to figure out is how deep this space is.
Bad idea? Good idea?

That's a perfectly logical spot to do it. I know that the holes for the switches exist under your blank panel, so you'll need to cut those out. I'd guess that you've got ~2" of space under there to work (just measure the depth of the cup holders and you should have that much space to work with). Also, if you are going to run a cable to connect the iphone to your headunit, you'll have easy access from there.
I personally ran my ipod/iphone cable back to the cubby behind the handbrake. So your positioning will be easy.

I have an 05 and ran my ipod cable to the back of the console where's there is a "cup holder" and some storage. I cut out a hole at the back of the console and connected the ipod there, out of sight, out of thieving hands. LOL
I fitted my ipod cable from my stereo in that spot. It holds, the phone nicely and I can listen and charge at the same time.
However, if you have stick, like me, it kinda sucks because it will get in the way a bit. You wont be able to rest your whole arm there while you shift.

If you need to figure out how deep it is, move both seats forward and you'll see a screw on each side. Unscrew those and you should be able to lift the panel - You might have to remove the shifter ring and the part underneath. There's a few inches of space below the buttons, and I believe the far left switch is an optional winter/snow mode on some Z's, but in general it's blank.

I did the same. Way to go if you can control it through your headunit. No need to display it out there
