Default Replaced waterfall console..cubby lid not lining up?

Hey gang,

Just installed the new waterfall center console in the Z, and when I transplanted my cubby from my "old" waterfall to the new one, there is a gap now at the top seam when the cubby door is closed....it's not a smooth flush seam anymore?

More specifically...the arc of the cubby door doesn't rest flush and parallel to the arc of the waterfall curvature....it looks like third party type of fitment....not oem anymore.

Anyone have a similar experience and know the solution?

Thanks gang, really wanting to get my interior restored to like new and this isn't an acceptable situation thus far. Something is wrong.

All help appreciated, and if anyone is curious I bought the waterfall brand new from a dealer for a good price, so the unit is brand spanking new and looks great...but the fitment is off with the cubby (non-navigation non-retracting door).

Is the cubby compartment itself staring and level, or is it just the door? I've had mine apart several times, and can't guess what's happening. The hinges really only go together one way, and don't have much free play. Any pics?

I'll take some pics today, and thanks for the help.

Cubby is level and screwed down tight, and you're right of course... there's only one way to do this so I'm brain strained on what could I have possibly not done?

All edges cubby are parallel to to cubby inset hole, but the cubby door looks more flat at that top seam, while the waterfall looks more curved (bowed outwards)...so a gap happens that makes it look non-flush and out of alignment at that top intersection of cubby door and waterfall.

I'll snap a pic in just a bit, will post it up very soon,

Wow, that's awful. I was going to say maybe the latch is the problem, but can't see the whole sides of the door or the bottom edge. If those areas line up well, then I can only guess that either the waterfall is warped, or the door is. The waterfall has an underlying metal structure, while the door is all plastic, so the door is the more likely culprit. Did the old waterfall and old cubby fit together well? If so, I wonder if you can make a paper tracing of the new and compare it to the old.

It is awful isn't it? My old waterfall/cubby alignment is perfect so I think it's the waterfall.

All other fitment of cubby door is flush and parallel, cubby isn't warped at all.

Thanks for the info on metal sub structure, didn't know that.

Will be resolving through the vendor as there is another issue as well, waterfall clearly has issues from manufacturing.

I didn't mean the waterfall itself is metal, it's all plastic, but it screws into the metal substructure of the dash. So you'd think if it was warped, or a bit flattened like yours, that it wouldn't line up with the metal parts. I wonder if it changed shape from being stored in a hot environment for a long time, or maybe it got really hot during shipping? Either way, it's defective, and hopefully the vendor will replace it.

Just a thought...

Is the waterfall and cubby for the correct year? 03-05 are different from 06-09.

If you were upgrading your interior to 06+ you will have to upgrade the cubby as well.

thanks myork....good thought but yes, the model year matches...you also have to watch out for color mismatches too just FYI as 03 was a lighter shade of the console, whereas 04 and 05 were black. An 03 on an 05 will not match in color obviously, which is another reason I made doubly sure to order the correct one.

Thanks for the clarification dcains...I wasn't quite following how it could be metal but figured maybe there was a wire frame or something maybe I didn't know about? heh All plastic makes much more sense, as it's always seemed to be nothing but plastic coated in vinyl every time I've taken consoles apart, which is many many times (over twenty I think).

I'll talk with the vendor soon and get this sorted out, love the "newness", but the glitches have to be resolved.
