Are my headlights in order?

Default Are my headlights in order?

I recently had the STI-R clear lens installed in the Z and while I'm happy with the color band, the cutoff doesn't seem to be as sharp as it should be. Does it seem like the case or are the photos posted by others edited to make their cutoffs seem much sharper? They always seem to have a single clean and crisp cutoff line with no glare above.

Is it a case of improper adjustment or are the bulbs not seated properly or something else...or am I just imagining things?

Overall looks fine. You can "fine tune" with spacers between the [STI-R] lens and the lens housing, even just a mm can make a difference in clarity, but it's marginal at best and up to you if that's worth the work of separating them to get to.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. I guess the part I would want to see changed the most is simply the space between the peaks - to sort of "close the gap" roughly in this area:

I've seen photos that others have posted and it just looks so much more dramatic, like this one:

Is it just heavy editing?

To me it appears your right light is a touch lower than the left

Unedited. This is how properly adjusted beam pattern should appear - note what looks like a single "peak". (The other peak is obscured by the light overlap.) Your light height and projector spread is off. The left hand beam, after height correction, should have enough overlap to cut the RH peak down so its not so obvious. However, if there's still a peak after the height adjustment, the next fine tune adjustment requires opening the lenses to correct/align the projector spread (side to side).

That all said, however, in functional day to day use, the projector spread issue is not nearly as critical as the height adjustment so recommend you do that - and be done with it.

@ OP- Do you have OEM bulbs? Your color looks closer to 6k. Mine looks spot on to the other picture you posted. The beam is laser sharp and the cutoff is exact with a slight blue hue at the cutoff.

When parked next to a 350z with STi-R lens, the stock light output looks meager. I had converted mine, and you can tell the beam is brighter, the cutoff is sharper, and lights up further down.

Thanks for the response again, I appreciate it. So is the left beam too high or too low? Or does the right one need to be adjusted also? Which way should I adjust the height?

No, they're not stock...they're the 5500K Morimoto bulbs. They were highly rated online and I wanted something a bit cooler in light temp than the 4300K OEM bulbs. The person that owned the car before me had something ridiculous like 8000K installed so I never saw what the stock output on the 06+ Z looks like. Do you think going with the OEM bulbs will help? Because I'd certainly trade the color difference for that really crisp cutoff and the even distribution of light at the top.

Morimoto is rebranded made in China parts with slightly better quality control. TRS does offer pretty good customer service, I would reach out to them in regards to your concerns, though you really can't beat OEM.

I know it's supposed to be an upgrade, what I was saying is his doesn't look like it is so something is off.

For anyone interested, I adjusted the right beam a bit and it definitely looks better now. Thanks again for all the replies.
