Default Hatch springs/poppers wearing out

Is there any long-term fix for the hatch poppers besides just adding more pennies? Can you take it apart and stretch the spring out again or does the metal just wear out over time?

I'm sure there's a cheaper way to just replace the spring.

You can buy a set for just over $60 at Tasca, still pretty pricey for what it is. Couple pennies and a rubber washer work fine for me.
