Did a search for this, but didn't turn up much info. Has anyone tried increasing the brightness of the backup lights in any way? I'm finding that they aren't really sufficient when backing up in very dark places, and it can only get worse when I tint my windows come summer time.
I figure I could probably drop in a higher wattage bulb, but I've always been a bit hesitant to do things like that. Don't want to burn anything up. Anyone else tried this or have any good solutions? If you've simply replaced the bulb, what are the bulb types? (I haven't looked up that info yet.)

those wont be brighter than stock, actually dimmer.
they are 21watts which is the same as the stock bulb, but the tinted blue lens will lower the output.
also I find blue bulbs like that kinda funny looking in the day when their off. you see the blue in the lens just like you see the amber on the turnsignal bulb.

Yeah, I definitely don't want a standard 21 watt bulb that simply has a tint on it. A tint doesn't get you anything but dimmer.
I figure a 25w or maybe a 30w bulb would be the ticket. Since the backup lights are only on for very brief periods of time, I figure the extra heat from a few extra watts shouldn't be a problem. Sound reasonable?

Ugh, 30 seconds, eh? Not sure I'm up for that. Heck... I might have to see if I can rig something else, then. I'll have to think about it a while... once my car gets out of the audio shop that is.
(I've been without it for a week!)

hahahaha.
I have my thoughts about the reasons they arent very bright. I mean 21w is pretty bright, and should be on par with most any other car.
my feeling is that the cause is the housing. where the bulbs light isnt focused behind the car. of course no way to fix that.
luxeon has brighter leds I can use, but they cost too much and get too hot. they just released new amber and red bulbs though, they are 2x as bright as the old ones on the same current draw. just no sign of such an improvement for white.
(but you better beleive Im planning to use them for turnsignals and brake lights
)
