Depending on the bike you have you might be able to dismantle certain parts and stuff it in a tough bag. Thats my plan for DHing. I'm going to slide the stanchions out of the upper crowns so basically the whole wheel/fork comes off, remove rear wheel, move handlbars around. Should fit in the trunk or passenger part of the cabin.
Be careful with a trunk rack: the metal clips that run straps to the top of the trunk lid can leave scratches if the weight shifts...it did to mine.
There was a write up on how to weld a hitch rack to your frame but required some other medium-invasiveness mods. Let me know if you want to go that route, maybe I can find it (unless it was in DavesZ#3's links already).
