I'm new here and I try to keep that speak when spoken to mentality. I'm 22 originally from Boston transplanted to Denver. With that said...I talk with an heavy accent and slang when I'm with my people, but seriously some people on this forum leave me speechless.
From the I raced a 911 and left it smoking on the side of the road to the my buddy has an sti...how do I keep up with it.
I understand that it's mostly us newbies creating the horrific threads, but you shouldn't punish the whole because of a few of us.
With that said...which color Z is the fastest???
And I heard nismo stickers add like 20 hp at the wheel.
Jokes

Translation: I think preventing newbies from creating thread topics is going to lead to a bunch of thread jacking.
An idea:
Upon registering, make an explicit statement about using the search feature.
In addition, for the first 100-200 posts, when a n00b clicks the "New Thread" button, a pop-up box appears that says, "Have you searched for existing information on this topic?" with a Yes or No choice.
Not sure what the VBulletin s/w is capable of, but I figured I'd toss the idea on the table.

The problem with something like requiring a certain number of posts before a new thread can be created is that it might lead to lots of hijacked threads.
I've always thought a great feature would be along the lines of the popup box mentioned above, but have it auto-search for you, so when you click the post button it first brings up a list of search results and you have to check a box saying none of them are related first. It would require some thought to figure out an algorithm especially with longer posts but I think it is do-able.
edit to add: Are there grammar-checking plug-ins like the spell checker plugins? Maybe have an auto-grammar check and preview post unless 0 grammar errors are found.

Personally, I think that my idea above would work, and if the n00b choose to ignore it, then he/she is open game for flaming. I loath a nice whipping for idiotic posts...
John, who thinks stupid people should be tortured...

Maybe you should add a spelling and grammar clause to the Terms of Use.

Most of the stuff everyone is suggesting isn't supported by vB. Definitely would require custom js.
No real way to make sure they watch the flash all the way through. Even if you could, there is no way to lock them down to the seat and prevent any computer commands.
Does anyone ever read what the registration terms are anymore? Putting it up on there isn't going to help. It's going to be just like the forum rules. The rules are broken tons of times a day...nothing is done about it. And when something is done, everyone proclaims ****'s and has a fit.
I know for everything I register for I don't read it...I might notice WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO KILL YOU if that was in there...otherwise, if it was regular font and no caps, nor color, nor bold...I wouldn't notice it.
The only real way that this can be resolved...and this is a real way, it will work. 100% sure it will work. The only way...is to add more moderators to the staff and a few more admins. That is the ONLY way. More moderators mean more threads are checked and more threads are moderated. (well, if you get moderators that actually do something unlike most currently on here)
I've also said this before, if something is annoying you...report it. Just report it and every mod for that section the thread of the post you reported is in will get an email (your username, your message, link to post, and your email address).
Anyway...just my opinion.

As far as the magazine subscription...I just got mine the other day. I was actually starting a new subscription...but they sent me two copies. You should have your's within this month, if not, contact Art Singer@Sport Z Magazine. (artsinger at cableone dot net) He was very helpful when I talked to him about my subscription situation. BTW, my350z has nothing to do with the sport z subscription. It was really just a thing to help out Sport Z in exchange for Sport Z listing my350z (i'm guessing). (as I don't think any extra money is being made by my350z on the subscription part)
