heavy posters
...what do you expect? Plus, people post so many useless crap so those huge numbers don't mean anything significant.

Oh, I see what you're saying. I thought you meant you wanted something materialistic or some special thing. But you're right. Other sites have that kind of stuff - either status or bars that fill up every certain amount of posts. But then again, silvrhand's cheating because he doesn't have 10 mil posts and it's actually washujon that has the most posts.
I disagree, in fact I don't even like "post count" and I would prefer if # of posts was only visible from looking at the person's profile, not visible all the time.
Most forums have some sort of cute little icons / titles and crap depending on how many posts that person has. It basically just leads to post whoring which we have plenty of already.
It's problematic because someone like me with over 5k posts gets a lot of PM's like "hey you seem pretty knowledgable about the Z, what do you think about XXXXX" and while it's usually basic questions that I *CAN* answer, I don't want to mislead people into thinking I'm some kind of master mechanic...
Then we have the "jvanquish" type of poster who quickly racks up 1000s of posts through almost pure spam, and all of the sudden the newbs on the forums actually LISTEN to this type of person's bullsh1t advice that is basically pure misinformation. Luckily we have not had a lot of these bad apples lately
-Mike (still doesn't know why posts in Off Topic count for anything, but I'm sure it's not easy to program the website to disregard OT forum posts)

The other two Z sites do this. Tech and Motoring. Shouldn't be too hard.
