I am currently working to set up the "shop" link for the paying sponsors, a home away from home there with a good way to showcase whatever they want to showcase.

just trying to give sponsors more and more edges to sell preferably without just giving them the monopoly on the site.

I also think perhaps GB should be allowed at a pay per thing. like 50$ per group buy, 10$ per item, while vendors get unlimited, if your a true vendor setting up multiple groub buys and what not, then the perks of being a vendor are numerous for way less cash. along with the plaque, hopefully a shop section soon. ect.

but all of this takes time to implement. till then, the venders have to get something.

Good to hear! This would be a good place for customer to vendor feedback.

I think this is reasonable. What I've seen is the % of the total sale works well. Paypal and Ebay does this. Like X% for the first N Dollars, and X% afterward with a sliding % scale ( high to low ). The site needs money to keep it self-supporting and non-sponsors should be able to post sales, but the site should somehow profit off the purchase. I don't think this site should be a "for profit" though. I think the prices should be enough to cover the costs for the site, maintainence, and future mods.

Understood. When the new policies are created, I think HFM and the others, including myself would be more than happy to respond to them. But since no changes to policy have been submitted and I've said what I wanted to say... I'll just wait and see what happens.

Me, I'm chosing options 1 and 2 for now and will follow through with 3 depending upon how bad things get.
Well folks, it's started. The thread on point referenced in my first post on page one of this thread is gone. I expect this thread to be deleted in short order. When that happens...I'm opting for choice 3.

Sponsers help float a site.. they do not make the site. The site is made by the contribution of the knowledgable and friendly people who make the forums what they are.

The whole paid sponser = safe sale thing only goes so far.. it doesn't guaruntee anyone who is a non-sponser is a fraud. Dozens of group buys have gone on through here without a hitch prior.. as with every sale, people need to check out their business partners before purchasing equipment.

Honestly.. you can't eliminate non-sponser activity.. any attempt to do so basically just drives it underground, or to another site. Neither of which does good for the members here.. you basically end up with an overbearing police force always working their butts off.. 'protecting' the users. Bleh

The previous topics of 'who makes money' or whatever.. I could care less. As long as the deal is valid and geniue, I don't care if the poster is making a cut or not. The only time it becomes an issue is when the person stops being honest about the product or transactions...

I'm of the believe that sponsership has its PRIVLEDGES.. censorship should not be one of them. Sponsers should get benefits and visability. Have exclusivity in certain areas, which have extra features and values over the general forum.

Censoring community chat will just drive people away.

No one comes or stays here because they like vendor XYZ and they are there.. they came for the topics and people.

Tirerack got great visabiility and I'm sure lots of business from here without even being active here for the longest time.. then they started posting, and probably got more business through being a contributing member.. with helpful information and postings. They got return from ADVERTISING and VISABILITY.. not through locking out all other tire vendor discussions.

What sold tirerack? Successful customer transactions... that's what gives you credibility.. not who cuts a check to the site owner or not.

If we just wanted paid opinions.. we wouldn't goto a COMMUNITY forum.. we'd shop the vendor's sites themselves.

The only solution I see is promoting sponsers, with extra features (some of which mike/ares have kinda started), and leave the community part of the site alone.

flynnibus, can you tell me why Tire Rack are not a site sponsor? They are a site sponsor on other every forum. And pay for more money to have their own forum on other site. There's a lot of forums out there that have a entire Tire Rack section.

Example

http://www.s2ki.com/forums/forumdisp...?s=&forumid=56

Because why should they pay to advertise when they can advertise freely on here. And that's going to make every Paid Sponsors leave eventually. Why should I pay to advertise on here, PAY to be a sponsor. When people can advertise here and sell stuff here at no cost. Because I get Exposure? Advertising in a thread IS exposure.

There's no one trying to stop every seller selling anything here. If you are a person looking to sell products. There should be a classified section for every individuals.

But what we are saying is, if you are selling a product that is targeting the whole community/my350z.com's community. Then you should be a vendor that is contributing to this community/ which by paying as a sponsors. Because you are using this site's community. And if you are not a sponsor, but is offering a great GB. There can be rules set, like you can send a pm to the moderators and have them exam the GB. As long it's legal/legit. I don't see a problem with it. Because ALL the vendors/sponsors in the world does not carry everything and sell everything.

BTW, flynnibus, I just noticed your location. We are having a meet this sunday if you wish to join us and stop by the shop.
