350EVO 3.917 Final Drive Gear with FI?
I don't have any experience with the 350Z yet but I do have lots with mustangs.
It was a fact that the stock 3.27 gears were sluggish and 4.10 were the best mod for the money. But if you decided to install a supercharger the 4.10 were too much gear and the best choice was 3.73's.
I assume these same types of rules apply to the Z.
Can anybody comment?
Thanks

i feel the same as spazpilot... at 425+ rhwp traction becomes a problem even on pretty large street tires... i also wouldnt want to have to shift any more often than i already do... i have also been considering the 3.28.
I have the 3.9 and the NISMO LSD... however since it is -15 out... I really can't give a good opinion on what it is like to drive / race with this set up and a TT under the hood. I am curious however.... I may have to get a new final drive....
Maybe someone could ask BJ at 350evo?

Would it benefit a centrifical supercharger since it builds boost on rpm. It is linear and not a surge like the twins. If anyone with the 3.9 final drive with a super snail has anything to say speak up!
I have a Vortech SC and I swapped my MT rear-end for AT gears. With longer gears you are able to stay in boost longer, shift less and the most noticeable change is the length of first gear.
With shorter gears you may reach boost faster, but you also have to shift faster and more often. The stock gears were better for drag racing, but for all around feel, the longer gears are better. Plus, I will be doing more road courses than drags with my car. And by adding longer gears top speed is increased once you get rid of the limiter.
The dyno showed that I did lose some torque with the longer gears. With that said the car still feels amazing . I couldn't imagine what shorter gears like the 3.9 would feel like. 1st and 2nd gear would probably be non-existent.
It really depends what you are looking for and plan to do with your car.

I was at the track and talking to a guy with a 5AT. He used to race cars and mentioned that he always switched out the automatic rear-ends for the manual gears. I mentioned that I wanted to do the swap and he said okay. It was just a simple pumpkin swap. Everything bolts up as it should.
So it was by luck, but ask around to see if anyone in your area will do the swap. I am happy with the swap and so is the other guy. I would not recommend it unless you are pushing some HP. Otherwise it would just make your car feel slow. I am at 415whp and the car feels great.

The swap to an AT pumpkin is work while and very easy. Problem is..>i have searched all the junkyards and havent found one.
Also, with the lower final drive, Your 1/4 times should drop, since you wont have to shift into 5th gear at the end of the track.

I dont know if you would have any use for it , but I have an open read end out of my AT5 . Some shims and a bearing was taken out to get the MT6 3.5 LSD to work in mine . Id let it go cheap , but shipping might be a little high...dont know
