Question Crawford to Kinetix w/ Vortech

I am considering to change to Kinetix from my Crawford plenum. I would really like to have a strut bar, and the strut bar from Crawford still does not work because of the supercharger. My main concern is that would I have to redyno tune my car if I switch over to Kinetix? Please give me your thoughts. Thank you.

Both plenums should have similiar enough effects on the VE curve of your engine that the effects on your tune shouldnt really stand out... Its possible that one design to another could effect individual cylinder tuning however short of 6 EGT or 02 sensors you would never know... unless the differences were so extreme to effect spark plug reading.

If you dont have an in-car wideband, I would throw her on a dyno real quick just to double check and it would also help ensure that your installation went smoothly.

Thanks... I try

I would definatly recommend a test. I have used both plenums on customer cars, but I have never swapped from one to the other on the same car to see the difference... if you were to do a before/after test on the dyno changing only the plenum... I bet you could stir up some real juicy drama around here by posting your results

i dunno if i'd trust the kinetix NA let alone with FI - good luck if you do go that rout though.

hehe, phunk your a trip, i was thinking the same exact thing as soon as i ran across this post! lol!

amai21, i agree, a before/after dyno test would really tell you if the swap was worth it! your either a lover or hater of either of these items...what a war it would start

I will definitely post results if I decide to with this route. After looking at many reviews, it seems as if lot of people prefer the Crawford over Kinetix.

Kinetix is GREAT! Have better than 6000 miles on my V4 with Vortech SC. NO problems! The A/F, Boost and EGT should be similar, but if you should notice a change, might recommend some dyno time and then posting the results.

Kinetix V4, Vortech S/C with about 33 dyno tuning runs by AAM and about 500 street miles and all appears to be a happy union..

I really dont know if its worth doing all this for a strut bar, but then I could be wrong? So far, I have had no problem with the Crawford plenum, and I am doing a consistent 374 rwhp.

I've got about 5500 miles on my kinetix v3 with the vortech and I haven't had any problems at all. 5500 miles and about 7 months.

Don't waste the money... I have a Vortech and I also use my Crawford srtut bar. I just spaced it up about 1/4 inch with some washers, ground a notch in the bottom of the bar right above the cogged pulley, and resessed the underhood braces so it didn't contact the top of the strut bar.
I can take more detialed pictures and email them to you if you like.

Steve

Here are some more detailed pics of my Crawford strut bar/Vortech install. I only took pictures of one side, but I repeated the process on the passenger side as well - Steve

It seems as if there was more damage then fixing the problem?

The "damage" to the hood was intentional. I heated it and hamered the braces to create space for the strut. When the weather gets warmer I'm going to sand and paint the hood areas.
I don't stare at the under side of my hood or the under side of the strut bar, nor do I plan on showing my car. So the so called "damage" didn't bother me. I have a functioning strut bar and Crawford Plenum with a Vortech kit so I am satisfied. Function is more important to me than form... Not everyone is like that.

What did you use to grind down the strut bar & recessed the hood ?

I used a Dremmel tool with a sanding bit on the strut bar. On the hood brace I heated it with a butane torch and pounded it with a rounded end hammer. The solution isn't for everyone but it works.

Nope... That's why I heated it so I wouldn't have to hit the metal real hard
