Default Greddy BOV-ok for rebuilt high boost engine???

i have the purple housed greddy BOV...i think they refer to it as the type S....i remember a while back there was some conversation about this BOV only being good until 14-15lbs...
does anyone know?
i plan to run a .8 bar wastegate spring (approx 11lbs of boost), and i plan to run 15-20lbs or so of boost when its all tuned.

Any info on the BOV situation? I have the greddy flange welded on and really do not want to have to get a different flange re-welded...i know the type s and some other greddy BOV's are interchangeable on the same flange..

any info or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

I've seen 20psi plus cars run the type S without any problems....at least according to the owner of the car. I bet you will be fine. You can tell if the BOV is struggling to vent air, becuase even after adjustment...you will hear compression surge. Watch for leaks.....but if you boost is solid, and no compressor surge...I would leave it as is...or maybe change it later.

It's not a big priority for me...but I was thinking of a future upgrade to HKS Racing BOV , or the Greddy Type R.

Greddy Type S is recomended for under 400HP use. That is probably to the wheels...

Ultimately at that power level there are some critical things to watch out for. The main issue with most blow off or diverter valves is the lack of proper opening area. Most valves offer screw adjustment to tighten the spring which adjusts the boost level of the valve opening at throttle closure. In doing so they limit the travel of the piston and decrease the area of the opening which limits how much air can escape. I worked in BOV and diverter valve development for a european company and got to play with alot of different valves in the marketplace. If the valve is venting non metered air, i would recommend the Tial 50mm valve. If it is reading metered air and you still want a Vent to Atmosphere valve (BOV) I would recommend the new twin piston 34mm valve from Forge Motorsport as it will control any idle issues found in many other valves. If the valve needs to recirculate the metered air you should go with the APS dual vent (Part BOV and part Diverter) 34mm as it will ultimately give you a quick "louder" vent thru it's "high pressure" external port and then recirculate most of the air back into the intake tract at lower and mid boost levels. Hope this helps. Just my .02

I would upgrade just to be safe. They are relatively inexpensive and the last thing you want on your brand new boosted motor is to have compressor surge that could damage your turbos and land you right back in the shop. Its a better safe then sorry thing. Not sure if the flange is the same but the Raptor BOV from Turbonetics is a very nice unit and is not to loud. Link: http://www.turboneticsinc.com/wastegates.html

Take a look at that Tial wastegate, they are top of the line. If I rebuilt my motor I would use the tial. Right now I'm using a diverter valve from a stock 3kgt that I had lieing around when I installed the kit, heh.
