Default DSport Magazine VQ35/G35 Build-Up....

Hi guys,

We've finally brought Project G35 off being "on-hold". Throughout 2005 we will be covering the complete forced induction(turbo or supercharged, haven't decided yet) VQ motor build-up, tuning process, track times, etc...of our G35 project car.

Currently the motor is fully disassembled and waiting for a couple parts in order to be sent out for machine work.

We have a Pump Gas Goal of 500hp+ and a Race Gas Goal of 650-800hp

I'll try to keep you guys up-to-date on the progress of the build-up. This is my personal car so please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions.

Thanks,
Derek

Nice list.

Is the RPS clutch going to be custom? AFAIK RPS only has a flywheel out right now.

Any info on the ACPT CF driveshaft?

BTW, you can get Arias pistons in any CR and with any coating (according to gq_626), so you may want to consider them.

Just curious why you chose the Kaaz LSD?

Suggestions...
Driveshaft shop level 5 rear axle (they also have a driveshaft if you are interested)
Greddy or SSR/SFR or Power Enterprise twin turbo kit is the F/I I would suggest, since you are using the HKS F-Con (V-Pro hopefully?) and upgrading fuel. And to give my ultimate opinion, i'd get SSR/SFR with the ball-bearing turbo upgrade($1000 more)and ceramic coating ($495): http://www.speedforceracing.com/prod...35turbokit.php
Albert at SSR told me SSR/SFR would offer a base kit soon that would be around $6,995, which I would recommend since you are going to use the HKS F-Con and CJM twin fuel pump setup.

As far as sleeves, you are going to get bored out sleeves I take it to achieve 3.8?

Sounds like an impressive setup. I tend to agree with Nis350TT on this. No sense in going with an APS turbo kit if you plan on upgrading the entire fuel and EMS system anyways.

The Greddy kit is a terrific base for massive power, once you address the missing pieces. As long as you can live with a conventional bearing type turbo, vs, the dual ceramic BB turbos used in the APS kit...you'll be fine.

Arias pistons can be made in any CR, and with coatings and other special features...offset wrist pins, etc)...

Hth,

Sharif

Our carbon fiber wrapped aluminum driveshafts are good for large amounts of power. Unless he plans to launch on full slicks all day, id bet the stock driveshaft is good for 800+ rwhp on street tires and DRs.

I think the weakest link is the half shafts....not really the main drive axle.

nis350ztt -
The RPS Clutch is still in development.

Here's a link to ACPT's website.
http://www.acpt.com/driveshaft/index.html . Our Project RH9(Skyline R33) had it's driveshaft done by them, very nice quality.

I believe we might be going with Wiseco but we'll see, if not we'll definitely go with Arias.

The Kaaz LSD is one of the more buff units plus there local to our office which makes for an easy and quick install.

The SSR Kit is bad*** and will definitely be on the top of our list. I've been working a lot with Albert in the past couple weeks and make sure you look for SSR in our upcoming issue of DSport.

Dan Benson of Bensons Sleeves in Anaheim has previously sleeved my 1.9 liter honda block and has done many other blocks for our Project Cars and said that he is definitely able to sleeve our VQ35 blocks. He's been sleeving LS1's and other V8's and V6's for the past 30 years, he knows his stuff.

Z1 Performance - sounds good Adam, talk to you tomorrow

Enron Exec - i know that the driveshaft for the Z is carbon fiber wrapped but i don't believe it is for the G.

I will be contacting driveshaft shop in the future for the axles.

Hey DSport
I have to agree with you on the SSR turbo kit. Albert is a great guy and SSR makes a great kit. This is why I am using the SSR kit and selling my Greddy kit. I can't wait to see your G when its done. I was talking to Tom at Light Speed the other day. He told me that you had called him. I hope he helped you with any questions you may of had.

Chris
