the boost control sensing line for the wastagate hooks directly to the compressor housings and contols the boost pressure. the ECU is controlling the fuel and ignition curves based on the testing and calibration we have done over the past year of development.

the ECU does not control the boost.

That was his response.

So yes, you would still need a boost controller.

Not sure what u meant by "on install," but the Y-pipe lets your car breath a little easier. If you're keeping the stock exhaust then I would suggest to get the Y-pipe, mid-pipe, and test pipes. But I would really suggest to get a complete new exhaust system and some test pipes or high flow cats.

Depends, if it is larger than OEM, yes it should. I would think you woudn't see true benefits until you replace with a y-pipe-back exhaust and test pipes.

Then APS and/or Turbonetics will have everything included. The only other thing I could think of is maybe a return fuel system (if you get a Turbonetics).

I don't really have anything else to recommend for going turbo. The only other thing I would tell you could get are a crank pulley, y-pipe-back exhaust (preferrably 3"), etc.

so far in this thread, you experts have been addressing prep for a turbo setup, but what about a supercharger at only moderate hp increases? would your recommendations be different, and if so, how, pls?

If there is already a cat back exhaust installed with test pipes, does a larger Y-pipe help any on a twin turbo set up? Please forgive the newb questions....

Moderate is about how much? 340? Pretty much depends on the kit.

Cat-back or Y-pipe-back? If it's a cat-back then you don't have a y-pipe.

Cat-back or Y-pipe-back? If it's a cat-back then you don't have a y-pipe.
Im confused. With other cars lets take for example a 240sx wtih a sr20det you have the turbo extension, downpipe, midpipe and then the catback. What would you have to replace with the 350z. I want the RSR ex mag2 exhaust and test pipes would i need to get anything else like downpipes?

Here's a diagram...

And of course there are variations of each.

With TT, the turbo is mounted between the exhaust manifold and test pipe(s).

isn't a better description of your second diagram a "true dual" exhaust?
a cat-back exhaust can also have a ypipe, ala oem and nismo setups, right?

Yes. Some y-pipe-back exhausts include the Y-pipe and some don't.

So would the Fuji exhaust and aftermarket y-pipe be a good setup with the APS ST?

The APS ST does not use a y-pipe. It hooks up where the former y-pipe meets the mid section of the exhaust.

The ST setups are a little different. They eliminate the Y-pipe and cats completely with a single straight pipe. Unfortunately, this means I will be selling my Y-pipe soon... :/

Yes, note that Turbonetics has a cat-option though.

Both use stock headers as well, though either one can be used with aftermarket headers (assuming they'll clear the piping) (and APS offers a cast manifold if you want that for an extra cost).

Also might i note that if anyone is planning on going with Greddy TT's. That several have blown engines, even with some of these mods that nis350ztt said to do. APS TT would be your safest best if u want a TT. Mainly because you dont sound like you know too much about the Z engine, and want some reliable 400rwhp. With the APS TT you dont need to upgrade anything else out of the box to get 400rwhp reliable.
