That time trial was a closed course. Nothing there but miles and miles
of miles and miles.
It did have a sweeping right hander which was probably fine for 75 to 90 mph. At 350 kmph there would be a lot of weight on the driver side tires.
Roll cages at that event was manditory for cars in excess of 150mph. Plus a fuel cell. Check out the Banner over the starting line.

yes the silver state classic rules!!!!(for those who don't know that was the race he was in) the cause was tire delamination which is tire flex in the side wall that creates so much heat it at high speed it delaminates the tire. he was good enough to hear the sound of it early but downshifting was a huge no no. lift off and ride it out. it was a rear tire from the looks of the video and downshifting is what caused his rear to slide around. i'm sure he is capable of driving the car, but just a small slip or misjudgement at that speed made the car scrap metal.
the silver state classic is a not widely known race, but happens once a year in nevada from elko to, i can't remember the town!!!! lol. can't understand why everyone does not go with racing tires for it. most still drive it on Z rated street tires. there has been a few lives lost to delamination of tires as it is mostly straight with very high speed turns and a couple 10 mile straight aways. if you want to hear the best part, a 69' camaro still holds the record for being the fastest time, with a 19 year old driving!!! well ok, it was a stock car with a 69' camaro body, but still, its a brick with an all aluminum donovan big block in it!!! hahahahha
saw a build up mustang do it, and he started to delaminate the tires at around 190mph. luckily he caught it before the tire started to come apart and felt it loosing pressure and pulled off.
Delamination= look at the bulge at the bottom of your tire when sitting still. at high speed that bulge doesn't have time to reform to the normal tire shape. so going through so many spins per second (approx. 30-40) the friction of that bulge trying to reshape creates so much heat it melts (or delaminates) the tread. tire shreads!!!
keep your tire pressures up and think about this the next time you take your car to 160 and above, lol.
