He doesn't get more boost. Cold air combusts better than hot air, which is where the extra power comes from. It's like driving on a cold night versus driving on a hot day with a heat-soaked intercooler. Except the NO2 is VERY cold.

I would think it would make more boost . As cooler air take less space as hot air . I wouldnt know how much more the chiller would cool the air . But on cool nights I make a little more boost than a hot night . Not much , maybe [ .2 psi ] but it does . And if its not a noticable amount , It 's for sure more air volume than hot air

Remember that the common side effect of spraying nitrous on the intercooler is that some of it finds its way into the intake tract and you are essentially adding a small dry shot to the motor which is usually what gets you the bigger power. I guess the real test would be to freeze an intercooler while the car is on the dyno, then throw it back on and see if it makes the same power. I doubt its even possible but it would prove the theory of the intercooler sprayer as being power from lower temps in the charge air or power being from consumption of nitrous by the intake.

Hmmm. Possibly. The guage in his car is analog so it is hard to tell slight increments of boost.

I know that while the car was on the dyno, special care was taken to make sure the air filter did not come in contact with any NO2.

Do you have a link explaining exactly what happened? I'd like to know so that I don't have the same misfortune. TIA.

No I don't. We were making big power with the Vortech and stock internals. The wimpy stock rods just had enough. The A/F was good and the timing was conservative. But, I also did road courses and took my car to the drag strip. Not to mention driving it hard on the street.

My personal opinion is that it was the luck of the draw. A couple of my friends are running around 440rwhp with a TT setup on stock internals and their cars are fine. They beat on their cars just as hard if not harder than I did.

No one expected my car to let go but it did.

Thanks for all the dialogue, gang. This has been a very informative thread for me. I'm checking into some intercooler chillers now. If I decide to do this, it will probably be an 'over the winter' project for me.
