Default What A Rock Can Do to Your Oil Pan

Hey Folks:

On Wednesday, a rather large rock rolled off of a hill and into my path. I could not swerve because there were cars on both sides. Check out the damage.

Thanks to Brainstorm for fixing the problem and getting my car flatbedded from the out regions of LA to their shop.

That sucks BAD...I hope you pulled over and turned your car off immediately...you probably lost your entire 6+ quarts in less than a minute with a hole like that.

here's the other part of the story:

I had to be in court for trial. I was about 10 blocks away from the court and the rock happened. I saw "Pedro's Garage" and effectively just threw him my keys while I took off for the court.

Pedro catches up to me to give me a ride in his broken down Honda and he tells me he will be able to repair the oil pan.

When I get to the courtroom, it dawned on me that I had an APS oil pan and would need my original installer to do the work, so I had to have my assistant arrange for a flat bed to bring it from Pomona to Marina Del Rey.

If I were not in trial, I would have been one pissed off Mfer.

I hit a rock recently, (came from behind a truck....I wasn't tailgating but should have been further back) The thing was like the size of a mini-basketball. I swear my car popped up in the air like 3 inches, it was nasty loud.

A few dents underneath, but surprisingly that's it. After it happened I was thinking, what if it went up the hood and into my buddy's face? So it could have been much worse.

Be glad that it's just the oilpan and nothing else. Someone I know had a civic sitting so low, he did the same thing to his oilpan and killed the motor (thank god that POS was off the road)

OH ME OH MY. Are you all right?

Sorry to hear about your nice oil pan. I wonder if APS will sell you one at cost? It's worth asking...

That was a very expensive rock; had to get an new APS oil pan, plus the flatbed to get it from Pedro's garage to my mechanic in the Marina.
