At one point I was the one considered crazy. When I was running 467rwhp at 9psi on stock engine, I really thought I probably was pushing it. But after I tore down the engine and saw whats in there, I think that as long as the tune stays PERFECTLY MAINTAINED, 550rwhp should be no problem. Its just that your threshold is much much smaller now and the littlest thing could cause problems. But those who stay very aware of their tune could pull it off I think.

So to answer your question, no, I never ran anywhere near those numbers on the stock engine. But at the time I had a short lived record and I used it and abused it and she held up just fine.

I know it will hold with a good tune I'm just wondering how long...There is no way a motor making almost triple the power it was ment to lasting 100000 miles...I'll be happy if it lasts 20000 to 30000 hard miles we'll see guys.. I'm doing this for everybody....

I hope it does prove myself and a few others wrong but looking at some rods that came out of VQ's man its pushing it. But then again so am I so go for it. What year is yours by the way. So it looks like this weekend might be a go. Send me a PM later tonight I will check it and send my number so maybe we can meet up tomorrow and take down some V8's.

Later Crazy!

What exactly do you mean by "perfectly maintained"? Does that mean if you go in, strap it on the dyno, and make sure the tune is where it was before?

Just keep an eye on stuff. Watch your gauges, make sure the a/f is always relativley the same. Make sure everything is good and tight...etc...

exactly. Things can change. The tune that is in a stock car was done with hundreds of hours on an engine dyno simulating every possible variable. The quality of a modern OEM tune is something that money cannot buy right now in the aftermarket world. So just keep on eye on everything if you want it to last. You cannot just tune a Z to 400-550whp and call it a day and then never look back... well not if you want it to last.

Even OEM cars with this type of power arent all that reliable. We have a Ferrari, Lambo dealer next door. Their service department is always full of hardcore fixings on high HP cars.

The odd thing is we've seen motors blow with Stillen(said to be safest) Vortech (second in line) and they were pushing no where near that #. I would think the tune on the stillen would be pretty good.

Has it been running just as smoothly since you've turned it up? How's your traction?? I can't believe you have much since at 442whp, I'm spinning all the way through 3rd. I'm so tempted to have Tuan / GRD, push me to 500whp, especially if I add water injection.

Have him retune it for 9.5, that still seems safe and should give you decent gains. Im gonna probably move up to 10 or 10.5 next month. We'll see.

Exactly Tuan, so how many miles do you have with 500whp now? Still running fine after all those customer thrill rides? Oh and by the way, you were right, it was a disconnected pipe to my IC. Thx again!

Yea it runs like a monster......just like stock if I stay out of boost....let me put it this way I put it in second at 1500rpm and floor it and at 4000 rpms I'm sliding sideways with no traction do even get me into what happens if I floor it in first....

I think it's funny that people still call the VQ internals "weak" when we really have no idea what the limit is. A bunch of motors went because of bad tunes...but I have yet to hear of one failing due to too much power.

Good job Bri....I should be right behind you in the spring....

I think it will be less than a year before you see someone break 600whp on a stock bottom end.
