I guess I fall into the Gman category, started with the Nismo exhaust from the dealer, then wheels and here we are...

So far I am $48k in for parts/ $15k labor, shipping, paint etc. This is not counting building the engine yet, that is another $8k in parts and $7k in labor, porting, polishing, grinding, balancing, blueprinting, pressure testing, redecking, cryo treating, heat treating and shipping the engine between shops. (I am still working down this road, takes some time to do it right.... )

So all totaled, $56k parts + $22k labor = one Unique KICK *** CAR
Definitely not for everyman, but it has been an interesting ride so far (with a number of frustrations built in just to make sure you are one your toes, ever vigilant and above all patient)

LOL....you were way off. My 300ZX started out as just wanting to get to stage 5 (no expensive mods and making near 400rwhp) with some rims and a stereo. Total cost to that point = roughly $10K. $25K after that I swear I started shredding reciepts so that maybe it didn't really happen. I was incredibly lucky though to find a guy to pay $30K for the car. It was exactly what he wanted. No one else would have ever paid that price again so I just took it. Now my dumba$$ wants back in. There may be something wrong with us. Come to think of it, I probably still lost about $15K in the deal with the price of the car but that 3 years with that car were absolutely priceless. It wasn't like the 350Z. You could beat the hell out of that 300ZX and it would never whine or cry. It was a true beast.

 

I have been thinking of starting a ModAholics group.... But I don't think any of us REALLY wants to quit....

This will address pretty much everything including brakes. You could get much cheaper bodykits, but i think this kit looks awesome, so you could get this total down to about 25000. Like i said before, this is without labour and install.

 

Buying everything from many places is a headache in the making. I'll agree with all those prices. Add another $6K for all that installed, tuned, and painted and you are at $32K. Put in an audio system and you are at $37K. I am sure we could put another $3K in there somewhere by means of a flywheel, pulley set, test pipes, tint, alarm, upgraded thermostat, oil cooler, plenum or spacer, and a few more things. $40K is the magic number. Want a Z with most everything....$40K. You could always do vertical doors. You may want to do cams and headwork later so figure another $2500 or so. The list goes on forever my friend.

 

I couldn't agree more, you could throw as much money as you like and keep spending more and more. Its like a bottomless pit. But the numbers i suggested are just for a basic start point for about 450whp. I've done a lot of work with cars and spraying, so i would do all the work myself, as i also have all the tools to do it. It would just be the motor that i would have to pay somebody else to do. It would be a bit of a headache, but it's something i would do over time, not overnight. Ultimately i want people to **** their pants when they se my grill in there rear view mirror
