Default Did I just blow my motor!?

So I install the 2.87 which I bought from Vortech directly. I get the setup installed, and I start the car, and everything sounds great.
So I turn it off, and then proceed to turn it back on and the car hesitates, and after a few cranks...I hear a loud clang clang clang, a metal hitting metal sound.

I go around to the front and I see that the pulley had lodged itself in the jackshaft drive and prevented the belt from turning. So I take everything off, including the belt, and proceed to start the car and she starts right up. I only ran it for about 5 seconds because I did not have the belt on. Everything sounded fine. Should I be worried about internal damage? Was the metal sound just one of the accessorry drives, like the alternator or soemthing?

Man, im so pissed at vortech, and pissed at myself for not seeing that the pulley did not spin smoothly. Is there something I should know about the 2.87? Am I supposed to add a washer or something?

When we did one we had to put a washer to push it a bit otherwise it jams up.

So what about the metal noise? Was that piston slap or something? The car sounded fine after, but I dont know if there was damage or not.

Kevin,
What did you have to do to get the 2.87 to fit?

I didn't have any issues with my 2.87" fit. I got mine from a Mustang shop here in Denver. Did yours come from Vortech? Read all of the link a droped above, Booger had to have his machined down to fit I think.

They gave you the wrong pulley . Same thing happened to me . Tore up the jackshaft . If you live in the area take it to them . They should replace the jackshaft . You tore up yours worse than I did mine . Your motor will be fine . Just put the 3.12 back on and drive it there .

Here is the reason it didnt work . I recall Vortech saying they let one go out that got mixed up with the ones for our car . Must have happened again , because they are plenty out there that do fit

So I make the 2 hour drive to vortech....
Spoke with Mike, well mostly argued for about an hour

At first Mike said that he could not replace the jackshaft unless he had the entire bracket. I was like wtf are you talking about? What does that have to do with the jackshaft getting torn up from the pulley. His response was that because of liabilty..blah blah blah..

So I give him the 3.12 I had with me and said, your missing whats going on here...your pulley that you designed tore up the jackshaft that you designed because you have different style pulleys. I showed him the thickness of the 3.12 compared to the 2.87. So he takes the pulley and shows his manager, and says, well I still need the entire bracket, because we dont know if you or your mechinc is going to do the work. I basically wasnt going to leave there with that response, so I continued to argue...

Mike, all I need is a new jackshaft and the correct pulley, becuase there are several people running the 2.87 with the 350Z. He goes to the back and comes back and says, well we only make one 6 rib 2.87 and we dont do custom work.

Ok fine...

How about just a new jackshaft and a new 2.87...

Well I cant give you a new one because your the one that ordered this pulley.
WTF?
I said Mike, I bought this pulley off your website, and if it is indeed the only 2.87 you make, how can I possibly be responsible for your companys lack of r&d?
"Well I can give you a discount"
Whatever, **** it, just give me the jackshaft and the 3.12,

Ok well we dont have any, so I will have to make you one. So I drove home in 3 hours of traffic all pissed off adn now I gotta pay vortech $100

***-*****-FCK!! I got my 2.87" from a Mustang shop so, I must have gotten lucky that it was set up for a Mustang Vortech application!
Sorry to hear you situation. Bad pr for Vortech unfortunately does a LOT of damage to there product creditability, and sales. A hell of a lot more damage than a messed up jack shaft!!
Sorry about your grief bro!!
