Default Those of you that have a ProCharger FI set-up...

I am chomping at the bits waiting for ATI to release a model for the 2006 Z's. So my questions for you are this:

1) Are you happy with your ProCharger? (Likes/Dislikes)
2) Were the gains what ATI promise (55% over stock)?
3) Is the quality there?
4) If you installed this supercharger yourself, was it straight-forward...were any pieces missing...was there something that could have been done better by ATI to make the install better or easier?
5) If you could do it all over again (or maybe you have) would you purchase the ProCharger again, or would you go with another F/I set up?

Thanks,
Joe

I am sorry that this is one of your few first posts as you should get ready to get flamed. I do not own a Procharger but this has been debated a ton of times but here you go anyways:

Pros:
-smooth power delievery
-self-contained
-good quality
-decent power gains

Cons:
-no timing control with engine management
-still should tune it (any FI for that matter)
-belt slippage (high power levels)
-noisy
-belts break

There are more Pros and Cons than that but those seem to be the big ones.

Well hopefully I will not get flamed. I am not wanting to know which form of F/I is better or the pros and cons of each. I am specifically looking for information from ACTUAL OWNERS (whether they are current owners or have owned this product in the past) of this particular supercharger. Yes, I agree, I could do a search and find all kinds of pros/cons but that is not what I was asking in my questions.

BTW...the reason my "post" count is so low, is because I do use the "search" feature and do not ask the same repetative questions. Ha Ha Ha

Thank you though Quamen for giving me the straight scoop. It will certainly be used in my decision making process.

The rev-up Vortech kits are currently availble, and we just finished in installing one on a G35 coupe. Very straightforward, and no complaints. I tend to prefer the Vortech kits out of the box, since they offer a level of timing and fuel control that the ATI lacks.

i have it and installed myself.. was a fairly easy install, why do you want this kit? i got it for a great price used and was pretty broke at the time. i also wanted 1000 dollar gauges and fuel return and UTEC BOV the list goes on so im FI for now, with some extras i wanted waiting to save some more $ build the motor and TT kit but for the $ i spent im verry happy with the kit. makes good power but this was the first kit released for the Z (FI) there have been other companys now with more time to research and make better kit disigns ..

Procharger is cool if you don't try to push it, but once you try spinning it too fast or try to make big hp you'll go through belts faster than you'll go through a full tank of gas. I had big time problems when trying to make big power but when it was stock I didn't have any problems at all, Sharif has seen first hand what i"m talkin about

i did a stock pulley procharger kit, utec, cjm s1 fuel system, 440cc injectors, jwt clutch/flywheel in a customers car - while the power was pretty conservative (IIRC 375rwhp dynojet), it drove flawless - and honestly, with the linear powerband it had in first gear - i think it was the fastest i ever felt a 350z pull thru first and lower 2nd gear - the twin turbo cars just light up the tires in those gears and cant go anywhere!

While it wasnt fast enough for ME, cause I am a little greedy, it was just a kickass setup and the customer was super happy with it. He took it on that "players run" cannonball rally thing across the US and said it was flawless and that he was able to pull a little on a couple ferrari 360s he was running with.

The supercharger sounded pretty good too... most centrifugal SC setups sound like they broken

I currently have the Procharger and am happy with it. Although if i had the money for a TT, i would go that route, but for the price i paid for this used kit, i couldnt pass it up. The power comes in smooth and strong, and its a huge gain over stock. If you plan on building the motor, you'd be better off going TT, but on 7 or 9psi, you should be fine as long as you get a timing solution. I purchased the J&S safeguard which was a pretty penny, but well worth it. Ive been running the fmu system that came with the kit. Its not the best tuning solution out there, but i didnt have cash at the time to get a UTEC. The install was fairly easy, but time consuming, of course coming from a guy that has no mechanical knowledge prior to the install. If you can get a great deal on this kit, then id say go for it, but if your going to pay full price, then id either get the vortech or turbonetics.

I had the first procharged G35 in California , and drove it 22,000 trouble free miles. Ate two belts is all. Both times my fault for not paying enough attention to belt tension.

With stock internals, 7psi, conservative tune, she ran 350rwhp (dynojet) and was total joy. The aeromotive fmu is out of date and needs to be tuned carefully. But done right this kit delivers reliable daily driver utility with lots of power, and seamless instant availability is the byword.

I have since taken it off, built the motor, and put the JWT TT on my car, but if you are going with a stock motor, I really like the centrifugal supercharger solution.

What belts is it that you guys break?

I remember someone having troubles with the cog belt that connects to the head breaking.

Also, you still use a 4-rib to get everything going don't you?

Fantastic information gentlemen...this is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you to all of you for your cander...it is very much appreciated. Maybe I need to re-think the Vortech or a Turbonetics ST. Hmmm

Thanks Again,
Joe
