Gee I wonder which size kit Brent's going with. It's probably not the 3.54 Liter version
No, I would guess not....

As for how it held together, many people are asking that question. It was obvious that something was wrong from the dramatic loss of power on the Florida Dyno. Even after Sharif replaced the headgasket, the while he was tuning it was making slightly less power then expected. But it still had a good power curve and was reacting as expected to increases in boost and changes in fuel pressure/AF ratios.. ???
Hmm... well I am glad your sticking with it. Hats of to you guys for pushing the threshold clearing the path for the rest of us. Ive seen a picture of the wall and looks to me that went bang and that was it.

+1

wtf_no_turbo: I am curious as to where you saw that pic also. As far as I know, only 3 shops have it & I don't recall posting them..?

Eazzzy: Trust me, with the amount of money I have put into this, the last thing I want to happen is for anything to break... I can buy a house for what I have put into this car and I am not happy when something that is going to cost me $20k to fix, breaks... Especially when I just paid over $20k for it and it breaks in a month of use.

I am not one to stir up trouble ......but when the heads were off the block didn't anyone look into the bores or clean them before putting the heads back on?? I mean this is basic engine building stuff. There would be obvious evidence if the ring was put in wrong from the beginning. I realize it was late and everyone was in a rush but....

It's a perfectly valid question. After removing the heads, we checked the cylinder walls for damage, and also checked the block deck and cylinder heads for distortion. All surfaces were perfectly flat...not even .001 deflection from straight. The ring issue was not visible during our inspection, as we didnt break-down the block. Brent and I had a long discussion about how to proceed, and in the interest of time, we buttoned the engine back up, knowing there was risk involved in taking this approach without a complete breakdown and evaluation of the entire engine.

What is the hypothesis on how the ring went bad. If it's wrong from the start then it would have shown signs even after break-in. Did a ring land break under the higher boost levels to lead to the ring failure?

Your guess is as good as mine.

A ring land never broke.
