Default Spark Plug 1 or 2 step colder

What is the best to do? Should I go with 1 step colder plug or 2 step? My kit is the Turbonetics if that plays a role in the factor.

i run 2 steps colder, but for the first 2-3 seconds on a cold start it will miss. never fouled though. my next set of plugs will go back to 1 step, maybe, lol.

so does running colder spark plugs actually make more power, smoother acceleration etc?

A hotter plug does not burn hotter, it retains heat longer.Opposite with a colder plug. Depending on the characteristics of your motor you have to plug accordingly.

If the plug is too cold, it will foul, and/or not do a complete burn. If thats the case, NO it will not run smoother or perform better.

If you are boosted, then the rule of thumb on start of the system is run a step colder to cover your ***. If after your tuned, and you have some driving time on it over the spectrum of situations and u take a plug reading, and its color is indicating RICH then step up a level.

Lots of variables

I will state again, 2 steps colder is a hell of a jump and unlikely to ever be neccessary

The 2 steppers foul out a "little" more quickly, depending on your driving habits...I should probably update our website.
We use 1 step colder almost all the time, and 2 steps colder for track use, or if I feel that customer drives their car harder than most normal people.

the better question is how do you know you actually need a colder plug? If the datalogs tell you a colder plug is needed, go for it...if you are just fitting it to fit it, I would not bother till you know IF you actually need them

As for the fouling issue, a plug that fouls too easily is simply the wrong plug for the car - regardless of its temp range. The issue the overly "cold" plugs tend to have it at idle, where if asked to idle stationary for too long, simply load up with fuel. In most instances a plug 1 step colder is all that's needed except in the most extreme of circumstances

Point is, Its better to go from cold to hotter, than hotter to hole in your piston
