Default Vortech with Utec

Hey guys Im going to install a vortech kit I bought used and have a couple questions about where certain things get hooked up. I was looking through the instructions and it says that I need to hook the FMU up to the SS box. I am not going to be using the SS box and instead am tuning with a Utec. Where do I connect the wires coming off the FMU? Am I supposed to use the included FMU if Im not using the SS box? And if I dont use it, what controls my fuel pressure?

Also, I will be installing the MAP sensor and a boost guage...should I connect them to the same vacuum line that the FMU and SS box used? Trying to get this all straight before I start. Thanks for the help in advance!

Im sure the Utec has some sort of switch to turn on a aux fuel pump at a set rpm and or a psi level . The FMU is inline and controls the fuel preasure

the FMU is a BOOST dependant fuel regulator, it will work with the utec, it really will have nothing to do with it, as long as it is consistent, it shouldnt be a problem using it.

So where does that red/black wire run to? Do I take it to my batt positive terminal?

Hey guys im still trying to figure out where I should connect the red/black wire for the vortech FMU if Im not using the SS box. Or should I forgo using the vortech fuel equipment and instead get a walbro and use the 440 injectors? What would my fuel pressures look like with a walbro and just the larger injectors?

The fmu is utilized with system that use factory stock injectors, since you are installing the 440 cc injectors ,I would not recommend the fmu ,I wood install a walbro 255 fuel pump instead ,the injectors you have with the 255 pump would be enough fuel for your current set up.the is a simple way to do it .

will the fuel pressures be safe using the walbro? Im assuming so since it pumps out more than 2x the fuel

I have the walbro and 440's.. Also did not remove the FMU/Aux fuel pump yet.. However my fuel press (idle/normal driving) is 80psi...You will have to make the walbro mod that turbonetics recommends in there install manual to bring the press down to around 52 psi.. The walbro overwhelms the OEM fuel regulator...

Your fuel pressure will be higher but you can use the UTEC to remove the excess fuel.

I know the Utec in open loop fueling can specify injector pulse widths, but is there any neg side effect to having that high of a fuel pressure with the stock lines? This is a daily driven car and will see some track time.

If you are still planning to run stock injectors, then wire up the pump to a switched power source. Make sure its a good 15-20 amp circuit...something with some beef behind it. Run the pump continously, and pull fuel out with the UTEC.
