Default Best shop for Built Motor?

I am still gathering the final bits and parts for my greddy TT project...Im looking for the best shop to get my built motor.

I am looking to have about three different maps ranging from ~450whp to ~550whp on 93 oct. My car will be used for mostly drifting and road course. I will be driving on the streets some but will also have another car for daily driving.

Who has the best built motor packages for the money? (forged performance, builtzmotors, GTM, SGP, etc) who has the best build experience, turn around time, costs, customer service, etc?

Im looking for a pretty basic build. Like a stage 1 block and stage 1 head. Can anyone post up a good setup. Still not sure if head work is neccessary. I gues if get headwork it will be a mild setup like cams, springs and shims. Just not sure if the headwork is worth the money...will it make that much of a difference?
any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Jon

Considering your location I wouldn't go anywhere but Forged Performance. I'm not infinitely familiar with Cordova, TN but being in the Southern Region I would take the car to Forged and let them build the motor and do the tune...

Find a shop that has the most experience near you this way if there are any issues you can have them take care of it without shipping the car. Most of the shops get there motors from the places you mention. Very few do the work themselves, GTM is the only one that builds and installs, and tunes.

Yea, I was planning to go to Sharif for tune. My plan was to get the motor built, sent to my shop here in TN and then put the greddy TT and motor in my car and trailor it to sharif for the tune.

Does sharif do his motor build in house or does he source out to GTM or other places? Who has the most experience with built motors and a clean track record of building the most reliable motors?
I would love to go to sharif for the motor too since he does great with everything else and customer service is top notch : )

I believe he sources machine work, but assembles everything in house... Most performance shops work this way.

i completely agree with thawk408 ... ... instead of having 3 or more shops work on ur car just have a reputable shop like FORGED PERFORMANCE work on it. They will know everything that’s going on with the car at all times on the install and the tune.

We build our motors in house, and also offer GTM engine products as well.

Hope that helps.

One thing i have seen happen to people who buy all thier parts then take the engine block and parts to have it built, if something happens its on you because you supplied the parts. I know of a few people that this has happend too. If you purchase the engine (from the shop doing the work) and have it installed in your car at a shop, they will usually pick up the fault if it fails for a mechanical reason.

If you have bought all the parts it is best to have the machine work done then do the assembly yourself so that you know all the clearances are exact.

Jon,

GT Motorsports will be able to assist you in your engine building needs in every way. We do everything in house and nothing is sourced out, this helps us achieve a higher level of quality control since everything is being over seen by us. Our machinist and engine builders have been in this industry their entire lives and are excellent at what they do. We have built over 60 VQ engines last year and are on our way to break the 100 mark, to date have a perfect track record. (knock on wood )

I hope we are able to earn your business and I believe you will be more than satisfied with our services. I will PM you a list of our dealers that carry our engine packages.

As far as the head work that is always a good idea, the more efficient the engine the better it is, easier to create power, longer lasting engine, less stress, etc.

Let me know if I can be of any other help

Remember, we also offer a 1 year engine warranty (parts and labor) when we perform the entire job in house, and tuned with the FCON Vpro.

Just so you know...3 out of 4 of those shops ARE basically GTM motors.. So your getting a great motor no matter what. We do also get GTM motors for some customers who want a whole motor delivered to them. Some other jobs we source out machining as do 90% of other shops, then we assemble in house paying attention to small details most others take for dranted such as de-burring the block and opening up water passages for better flow.We also offr Chryo treatment of cranks and blocks..We just added a nice new engine assembler to our team. Big thanks to Rob S.

Not to be a dick, but why dont you guys sponsor the board...Its not fair to the rest of the paying sponsors that you advertise for free in a bunch of threads.your taking business away from the paying sponsors..
I just figured I would be upfront with you, since I can think of one or two sponsors on this site that will smile in your face and whine to the admins behind your back ..Im upfront, I call it like I see it, whats fair is fair..
