i didn't see him say in the original post that distance was an issue. so i assumed he was ok with shipping the motor. furthermore, he asked how much it would be and getting estimates would be helpful versus just one quote from theguy down the block.

Call around and talk to a few different shops. Unfortunately, "installing" pistons and rods is not a bolt on affair. There is quite a bit of expertise, and additional parts that go into building a shortblock. Then figure the labor to transfer this new shortblock, on your existing heads and engine assembly.
