Default Which cooler to go with ???

I am on kind of a budget right now and can only afford one, my question is which will be of more benefit to my built TT engine, oil cooler or the rear coolant mod. ? I rarely track my car, take it to the drag strip about 6 times a season, and do about 1 or 2 highway roll races a week at best. Which do you guys think will be more beneficial ? Oh and the labor of pulling the upper and lower plentum to install coolant mod isnt an issue since i just had the head gaskets and studs swapped out and the car is still apart. thanks Dave

I would go with the oil cooler unless you are pushing really high numbers. The main reasoning is that the oil will be hotter from lubricating the turbos and therefore cooling the oil could really aid in the longevity of the engine although it is not necessary.

I will be pushing high 500's to low 600's when tune is done. What do you consider " High Numbers ". thanks Dave

I would do an oil cooler. You can get it the cheapest by piecing one together from summit racing.

Both. Since your engine is apart right now, I would do the rear coolant mod at this time. An oil cooler is not so expensive, so you could do that a little later down the road when you save up some more money. However, doing the rear coolant mod later down the road when your engine is together, that would cost you.

I would say do both but not at the same time. The rear coolant mod can be done now since everything is apart. the oil cooler is easy to install later on with your engine back together. I will ask those guys at Innovative to piece up a oiler cooler for cheap and save one for you

do a custom cooler, standard kits were not intended to fit around an intercooler, that does mean they won't with mods. Wy pay for an expensive standard kit that may need mods to fit, instead of making one that fits for less. But it is a good idea to get one, really wht not? Its always better to be safe than sorry..

Yea my plan if I did it was to just piece a kit together my self after seeing how insane the pricing is for the kits. Only other problem I will have is getting air to it since I am rolling with a stock bumper. Anybody have some pics or ideas for getting airflow using a stock bumper ?

Ive seen people remove the front amber on the bumper and duct air to an oil cooler. It looks decent since you can remoe the amber and the depression for the amber, and replace it with a mesh, and then paint the mesh with reflective orrange paint to 'look' legal. It wouldnt matter in NJ since they don't check, but in some places, police are very picky. If you do it on the passanger side, it may require removal of the tank for the windshield wiper fluid. I notice you have a greddy TT which i think relocates something there (over flow tank i think) so that shouldnt be there anyway.

Function > Form
Here is my custom kit I did. Wanted it to get the most air possible, so where better to mount it. Some might say its ugly, but it definitely stays cool.

Have you had any issues with the oil cooler blocking air to intercooler and making intake temps. rise ? I like the idea of complete function.

I am not 100% cause I have no way to measure that. I would think that if it does raise them it will not have much effect on power. Pretty soon I am going to be tuned for 15psi+, so I am not real worried about it. I would reather have cooler oil then a bit lower intake temps.

I priced a custom set-up using a Mocal sanwich plate, Earl's cooler and assorted fittings and found the Stillen kit CHEAPER!!!!! I'm thinking of going with that set-up. Anyone familiar with the Stillen cooler???

do both and just build your own custom setup I built my own oil cooler setup and it works great.

**Note: the cooler is getting moved over to cover the stupid over sized wiper fluid bottle.**
