Default Sound Performance 350z Twin Turbo kit update!

Thought everyone may like to see some of the other things we're doing at SP. Most know us for building some crazy Supra's, but we're moving into the VQ platform Here is an idea of what our car will be outfitted with.

Engine Management
We have worked directly with AEM to build an EMS for the 350Z. AEM will not be offering a EMS box for the 350 anytime soon, so we have built one using an AEM box from another car and making a harness, modifying the box itself, and providing all the necessary componets to be a true plug and play for the Z. If anyone has questions on this please feel free to contact me at anytime. We've spent countless hours of time for R&D and quality testing with great success. It's been on our shop car for 8months and works amazing.

Engine
Our shop car will first see what we can put down on the stock motor and maybe run it at the track. Waiting in the wing now is a fully built, sleeved, 3.5vq that can handle over 1200+hp.

SP TT kit
The turbo kit on our car is more of a race app with this intercooler but we'll be offering a street intercooler in a bit. The kit will be capable of approx 900-1000rwhp with the current custom turbo's we're using. Bigger ones will come later with a stroked motor. More details to come on the kit as we finish it.

on to some pics
Front mount intercooler is HUGE!!!! 28x12.75x5"
It's as big as the one on our race supra. Just have to weld on the end tanks

Just some parts to the turbo kit and motor build

good stuff

TIGHT fit! We'll be making the downpipes next weeek, and then removing the motor so we can move on to the intake piping and intercooler piping, water and oil lines.

Fuel
We will be running Charlies (CJ Motorsports) Fuel system (stage 2 with some tweaks) on our setup with 1000cc RC Eng injectors. Btw, huge thanks to Charlie!

Hope you guys like.

Thanks
Chris

Quamen, yes sir it was. We took off the ProCharger so we could move forward with the kit.

doskiez, hahaha, that thing would be so damn loud, but it would be SOOOO awesome to hear the turbo's so clearly

Motormouth, I'm not much of a fan on the bumper either, but that one wasn't my decision lol, oh well it does have a decent opening for our fmic though

Ever thought of useing a longer bottom to top intercooler to cut down on pressure drop, although I cant imagine you would have much with a 5" thick core.

Not to bash your kit SP but I agree with the above post. I am suprised that more companies do not use vertical flow intercoolers. A vertical flow intercooler as long as the one you have now would be more effecienct than a horizontal intercooler with less pressure loss. The majority of the cooling actually happens in the first couple inches since the temperature delta gets less and less as you go further through the core.

Ive always wondered why. Maybe its b/c thats just how it has mainly been done and also ease of core choices.

So far APS and SFR are the only ones with a kit out for the Z/G with a vertical intercooler.

Chris,

Looks like you guys have a great start on your kit.. So if I am to get this straight, you are in fact selling this kit with the AEM EMS? Can you tell me the complete parts list for the kit as a whole?

thanks

How are you manifolds setup/made? and What are you going to do about the oil return lines from the turbos?

Everything looks good so far

I actually just got my bell intercooler in yesterday for my v-mount setup.

Vertical flow of course!

Bell intercoolers can basically get you any core size you want in vertical or horizontal flow.

I think there are two main reasons why you see more horizontal intercoolers

-Room available. With many of the cars having tight front ends there is not really room always for end tank on the top and the bottom unless you want a 3" tall core.
-Looks. Many people like the look of a pipe coming in from each side.

The core we chose is the same core we use in our 1500+ HP supras. The core is rated to flow 1775 HP. We chose this primarily due to its size and HP capability. I thought long and hard about this... as a vertical flowing IC would certainly fit the piping layout better. However I could not find one that would equal the HP potential of this core. The Air intake temps that we see in our supra with this core are ridiculously low....... Amazingly it fits in the Z's nose quite well!!

We plan on running this setup with the stock motor and test it until it fails. Then we have a sleeved built block, a set of Headgames heads with big cams ready to go. Later in the summer we might throw in a stroker crank..... bigger turbos..... the goal is over 1000 RWHP by the end of the year.

I got the manifolds from the guys at Intense. We had to modify them slight to accomodate these turbos.

The turbos are BB 61 mm. We may go 63 or 67 with the stroker motor though.
