Alright I searched this thread and couldn't find anything. I just got a used kit, but it didn't come with any of the parts to tap the upper pan. It looks as though a new kit comes with a center punch and 9/16" cutter. Can I just use normal drill bits to work my way up to 9/16" and then use a 3/8" NPT tap? I assume the 3/8" fitting is 3/8" ID, with the outside diamter close to the size of 9/16"?

UPDATE: I purchased the return line kit from Vortech in order to get the cutting bit along with the arbor, because it was pretty much the same price if i bought those separately. Drilling out the hole was really easy actually, using a basic Dewalt drill (didn't need a right-angle drill). I just had to bend the coolant hard line out of the way and remove the sway bar and bracket from the frame...

Also, I was planning on using one of the 1/8" NPT ports of a sandwich plate i purchased for the feed line, instead of using the T fitting from the Vortech kit (didn't get it with my used kit anyways). Since this would move the connection further out, is the supplied braided hose long enough to reach out a few more inches?

I have to call Vortech soon to order a few parts, so I need to know if I should get a longer feed line, or just order the T fitting with adapter for 1/8" BSPT.

Thanks!

UPDATE: Using a sandwich plate will work fine, and using the supplied 90 degree fitting the line easily made it over the to supercharger. I was a bit worried that I would be sending unfiltered oil when the normal installation would be sending filtered oil through the pressure port, but it was determined that both the sandwich plate and pressure port would be supplying unfiltered oil.

FYI for anyone looking for a 3/8" NPT Tap for the return line (if you don't want to go driving around to your local stores to find one)...

I just placed an order for this one http://www.galesburgelectric.com/sto...productid=9349

It was the cheapest I could find (including shipping). I'll let you know how it works out.

EDIT: umm yeah, they shipped it out within 3 hours of ordering it and the UPS tracking number already works - awesome!

EDIT again: My local Harbor Freight has a 4 piece tap kit that includes a 3/8" NPT and it's only like $14 - so much for this "hard to find" tap.

Excellent thread that actually answered a ton of questions i was thinking about asking.. I seriosuly considereing this kit as opposed to a turbo for reliability issues and on top of that i plan on using everything i have already installed.. great thread...

so after reading 9 pages I just have 1 question... people have compared SC to TT but I am between the STS rear mount and the Vortech.... I didnt ever want to mess with turbo manifolds and red hot turboes under my hood... The STS is a single system and I dont really know the differences between the single turbo and dual.... If I will get the same power with the rear mount that I will with the Vortech then I will probably go vortech......which would be the best route to go?

The Vortech won't give you the torque that the single turbo will. And as I understand it, you won't feel the vortech as much as the turbo because it provides a linear power curve (feels like a much stronger n/a car). The Vortech should be safer for two reasons - not a ton of torque down low like the turbo, so less stress, and no chance of over boosting. However, if you get it installed and tuned properly, that won't be a big deal.

If I lived by an good tuner, I my have went the STS route.

Been reading this for 2 hours now looking for a belt size and it has me all confused now. Just need a simple answer. I have an 03 non rev Z with a 3.12 pulley and switching to a 2.87 pulley. Keeping original design of system.

From what I have read I need to get the 93" belt.

NAPA part# 25-060930.

or NAPA part # 060926

that's normal. You can put your hand on it briefly

Contrast that with putting your hand on a red hot 850 degree turbo...

Ok so its relatively cool lol. Makes sense as the oil that runs through the supercharger has to be at least 200+ degrees. Thanks Sentry.

Hmm...my Si trim was still really hot even after the car was off for 30 mins or so. I couldn't keep my hand on there for longer than 1/2 a second.

I'm planning on getting an oil cooler soon, because things seem to be running pretty hot.

Forget the oil cooler, you just need to man up and hold your velvet soft hand on there Johnny

They make a V3 blower. It just came out and no one here has tried it yet.
