UPDATE:
I studied the diagrams and compared them to what is sitting on my workbench... the part that broke is the "3rd counter gear"

Now that is a great illustration!

maybe rebuilding with a new counter gear that has been cryoed and prayed over by monks???
Wow! Thats some "Power point" material there.

(dumb question.. please don't kill me), why is it 2 seperate pieces? Would it be possible to get a solid one made if that's a weak spot?

well, i will be looking into having this third counter gear reproduced in this fashion. I will fully pull this gear off tomorrow, but it does appear that nissan mates two machined pieces together and has some sort of copper seam between them... would be much stronger if it was one piece from the beginning

The engagement tooth ring/gear is brazed to the main body of the gear with copper (in this case, sometimes they use bronze, brass, etc). Many OEMs do this as a"fuse" - breaking the gear in this fashion is better than shredding the teeth off the gear which will take out both the 3rd input gear and 3rd counter gear and likely take out other gears as well as ruin bearings, etc. This way, if it breaks, it just breaks itself and there is no other carnage.

Hah at least my 6th gear is going out first. 25k miles on the tranny and 6th gear grind wtf. Those gears are probably made of hardend steel. You can weld it with an arc welder and get it really really really hot.

the synchronizer wearing out has absolutely nothing to do with the strength of the gear nor the gear breaking. they are two separate and unrelated problems. All gears are made out of hardened steel, otherwise they'd wear out. getting gear steel really really hot isn't the best idea...

Sorry TODD busy as usual ,I will call you shortly ,and to answer your question our gear sets was designed to accomplish two things. stronger gear and different gear ratio not to mention straight cut verses helical .

No offence taking.if we had seen more demand on the gear sets, we could have them available long time ago ,the gear set are on the shelf and are assembled in couple test transmissions ,they are not on the top priority list ,this does not mean that we are never going to finish up not at all, it is all based on the market demands.(steel in the testing phase sorry bert )
