Default TN waste gate broke off today.

I'm driving down the road and I hear what sounds like an exhaust leak. Thinking "Great, now what." I figure I'll keep headin home and check it out when I get home. About 2 min away. Then I hear a clank, and my exhaust gets really loud and I hear something dragging under the car. I immediatley stop. I find the two pipes connected directly to the waste gate have snapped off and the whole thing was help on by the vacuum hose dragging under the car.

It looks like the y pipe connected to the waste gate had cracked somehow and then snapped off completely and the flex pipe wasn't made to hold that much weight so it just gave and fell off my car. Nice Huh?

These things are really starting to annoy me. It seems like one thing after another.

If there is anyone out there from TN I'll be calling tomorrow to get a new pipe. While I'm at it I guess I might as well send in the turbo to get the new water bearing setup done.

Yeah, it was heat wrapped.

I am sending it back to TN, I've dealt with them before without any problems. One reason I like the TN.

it was probably the three tabs that hold the up-pipe onto the A/C compressor. Those seem to crack off over time.....I've seen 3 of them like that.........

good thing TN has a nice warranty.

You should insulate the items nearby the wastegate next time. It cooked itself. Same thing if you wrap the turbo, it'll cook the seals and bearings.

Curious, are you telling me to wrap the turbo or not to.

Telling someone to not wrap their turbo is purely done on speculation.

Jet ----It just seems to me that there is no reason to retain heat in the turbo---I would prefer protecting components close to it

Get those water cooled bearings if you can. Heat is your enemy.

wrap anything and everything in sight with the TN kit.......

It is a matter out what you want to burn up and melt......your turbo/piping, or your A/C, coolant hose, wiring, etc?

you have to choose. I chose to wrap everything, and I had no problems with my rubo going bad. The reason my up-pipe cracked off a mounting tab is that some yahoo thought it would be a great idea to mount a big turbo to my A/C compressor and only use 3 welded on tabs to hold it there. It is a convenient place to secure the up-pipe, but it doesn't last with those tabs.

Did you have to torque or use a breaker bar to get your turbo/piping to bolt in straight? Seems to me that kits that were installed with some force have these issues over time.
