TN oil return line leaking, any advice
First let me state that I have the AAM return line. Last couple of weeks I've notice a leak around the oil return fitting from under the turbo. Can't tell if it's coming from the threads or the fitting it's self (if that's possible). It's not real bad. When I installed it (about 5 months ago), I did have thread sealant on it. I hope I can get it off without taking the turbo out. Is there any advice to how I can check the fittings for leaks once off?
Also let me say that when the install was done, the fitting was ever so slightly resting on the frame brace in the engine compartment. Might of took it's toll.

I'm not sure how the AAM line connects to the bearing oil drain fitting. If you didn't put any thread seal at all on the 45 coming out of the bearing section it might have just started leaking. Its going to be a little tough getting to it though with the turbo on the car. I would start with the fitting you didn't put teflon sealant on and then check the rest.

we never end up with leaks on them, here is the trick, make sure there are NO hard bends first of all, make sure it is a very straight shot , wrap anything that gets within 5 inches of hot stuff, RTV the outside of all the fittings before you put the line on...
this will take care of any possible leak along the way..

I'm also using AAM oil return line and was worried about oil leaks so what I did was just put tons of thread sealant, let it dry atleast a day and not a leak what so ever yet. I'm pretty sure that you might have to remove the turbo (NOT much space at all underneath for your wrench to remove the oil return line from the turbo) G/L though.

Sorry to bring back a old thread but I need some more detail on this subject.
I reinstalled my water cooled turbo and everything went fine, only problem is I have a small oil leak that looks to be coming from the fitting on the AAM oil return line.
Now at first I used no sealant, just screwed the fitting on and that leaked, next I covered the threads with teflon sealant and when I started the car last night it still leaked.
Now I thought there might be a O-ring missing but I wasn't sure if there was one inside the fitting to begin with.
any other ideas? maybe try RTV instead of the sealant?

So now I have the fun experience of trying to get a new fitting on the line without removing it.

I bet you money its the fitting coming off the braided line. I thought the same thing, "it's probably the fitting on the turbo itself", but after taking apart the car for the thrid time, I just took the whole turbo out and tested the fittings.
It's hard to tell anything with the turbo still in place though.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure my little leak has anything to do with the actual AAM return kit that they sell... I am running an AAM pan spacer, with a custom earl's return hose assembly that I bought from JETPILOT. And the 45 deg fitting was still on the return flange that bolts to the turbo from when I bought the kit used. I just attached that fitting and flange to the new turbo, and screwed on the return line. And I didn't use any thread sealant because I thought it was unneccesary on an AN assembly.
Just another little issue to address when I get around to it.
