Default Vortech return line, help...

I use to have the return line tapped to the upper oil pan on my old setup but after getting a new longblock, the return line was drainning into the PE oil pan. My installer recently noticed that the blower was making a different sound then usual after around 30 pulls on the dyno before stopping. My question is, is having the return line drain to the oil pan bad when turbos do it? Also, I had my blower rebuilt by vortech and it was never on until this new setup. Anyone know if vortech has any warrenty on rebuilt blower (just got it done last month)?

From what I know, this is a huge debate on whether or not its detrimental to have the oil return to the oil pan. Mine return line is connected to my ARC oil pan, and a lot of guys on the forum are using oil pan spacers w/o a problem.

meh, here we go again.

Im going to say it: tap the pan and be sure that youre ok! You might be ok with returning to the oil pan spacer but you might not be.

Tapping the pan was nerve racking, but its not too hard.

What type of noise? Could be bad bearings which seems to be popping up now.

the shop believes it's the bearing but this is a rebuilt blower when i upgrade it to the T trim. I remember reading a lot about it long ago when I first installed the vortech but just wanted to hear others out there if more ppl are starting to have it drained into the oil pan or spacer instead of tapping the upper oil pan. My shop says it shouldnt matter if its tapped into the oil pan or upper pan.

What causes the vortech bearing to go bad? Is it due to lack of oil? Does having the return line going to the lower oil pan cause the oil to drain too fast?

i meant the jackshaft bearings. I just posted my issue in the fi section with some vids of the noise. Another member posted his vid as well. There set of vids on G35driver.com as well from a member that posted a diy to replace the bearings.

I beleive the twin turbos use a pump to put oil back into the oil pan, the vortech is just a gravity feed so it is more prone to back up into the supercharger

if it's good enough for APS it's good enough for me. The APS turbos sit even lower than the vortech so the oil can't build up as much force/speed from gravity

i think it might be the cog pulley. I will ask the shop if the noise is still present if they remove the cog pulley.

i will tell you right now , from my experience, if the line is routed properly, we have had NO issues on tons and tons of cars we have run into an oil pan spacer.

everyone that we have seen issues when people bring us their cars from some where else, it has been incorrectly routed line and so forth..

Even though its gravity feed, the oil is being pushed into the blower via the oil sending unit, so logically wouldn't the existing oil in the blower get pushed back to the oil pan regardless of where its tapped?

Noticed today when I took my cog belt off (sc is undriven) : my oil pressure increased!

Does that mean under normal operation the blower provides resistance? (the oil pressure is lower with the sc spinning) Since its a pressure drop, you want the least amount of pressure on the low side, ie tapping the upper block?
