keep us posted

I suspect it's going to take a massive fuel pump(s) to flow enough fuel to feed a FI Z

I am really working towards doing this year. I am also intrested if anyone else has done this yet. I am working towards ditching my UTEC and going to a better EMS that can control 1000+cc injectors. I will also be switching to a fuel cell with new lines and a triple pump setup. I have a gas station with E85 a block away from me and with my power goals this year I really would like to take this route.

The biggest thing is the fuel rails it seems. Remember seeing that Skunk2 made some sort of composite fuel rail for our cars. Wonder how that would hold up.

Just checked it on their site and it says that it will work with alcohol so I would think E85 isn't a problem. Not listed on their site though.

Well without giving away too much about the build for this season... heehee

I have 1200cc injectors, CJ Twin Pumps, and a complete custom fuel setup done by yours truely. Should be enough to get me the power I am looking for with e85. And on race gas? should be very nice...

I'd love to go e85 if there were more e85 fuel stations around. My bro just tuned his evo mr and is pulling 425 awhp with cams, simple bolt ons, 1000 cc injectors and a retune with e85. It's crazy, stupid fast... only problem is, there is 1 public station in the greater Los Angeles / Orange County area, and it's about 40 miles away from where we live. He takes about cumulative 20 gallon gas cans to refill and such (his friends also give him cans to refill and each trade off days to get the fuel).

I would love to see what e85 can do for the vq. Keep us posted!

Hope to have it on the dyno here in about a week or so! Just a few other things to finish up on the car and it will be ready for the season.

Sorry to OT for a bit...what brand of Water/meth are you using? I was was thinking of going to water/meth, but I would hate to think there are corrosion issues going that route...

Something to really really keep in mind is your state's emissions and whether your state actually considers E85 as an alternative fuel or not.

For instance, I just talked to two AZ emissions reps and they both said E85 is not considered an alternative fuel in the eyes of AZ. So when emissions time comes, if you did an E85 conversion they don't care about that. They'll still test that it passes the standard emissions. If your state recognizes E85 as an alternative fuel, you might even be able to get your car permanently exempt from emissions testing if your state recognizes it as an alternative fuel.

I bring this up because of the OBDII codes with E85.
You'll probably have all sorts OBDII codes for running too rich if you try to pass emissions on E85. So you'll need two maps, one for each gas type.

just normal distilled water, then I actually picked up ethanol from a local fuel refinery. Was like 6 gallons for about $8 or so at the time I think.

I was talking about the brand of your meth kit...I'm wondering what the quality of the kit is for the nozzle to get corroded like that....

it's a cooling mist kit....was one of their more expensive ones at the time costing like $600

I've since turned down how much is injected and switched to a 1/3 ethanol, 2/3 water solution and I think it's been working better...but yeah, a brass fitting - wtf?

it's not "corrosion" like what you might think corrosion is.
It's a light trail of brass running down my intake pipe. It doesn't look like any ever went into the intake manifold, but still.

I'd go with snow performance IMO

In for the updates! Sentry now that you've switched to the 1/3rd ethanol, 2/3 water solution, how does the new solution compare to the original water/meth injection? Do you find it cooler and more helpful to the engine this way or is there some tradeoff with the safer blend?

hard to say. My memory is a little fuzzy since my car has had some down time and breaking in my new engine etc.

I get the impression it works about the same from glancing at my air intake temps, but I don't really have any data logged or anything to back that up.

back to E85, just noticed this thread in the tuning section:

What does everyone do for the fuel pressure regulator and corrosion? I know that for the most part Aeromotive does not condone use of their products with alcohol. I'm stongly considering a Magnafuel setup since they are almost all alcohol compatible.
