It wasn't worthwhile though. We had to pull too much timing because of significant knock counts. For the amount of increased power, it wasn't worth the risk.

18psi on the 18g's is fine. I just don't trust the single walbro for extended power runs at those boost levels...so far, so good.

So what if we used the new twin pump (CJ is calling his stage 3) would that solve your concerns for big boost reliability, or is the knock still out of control?

Sorry not trying to thread jack, but I couldn't resist...

I dont think it was out of control, but even 1 knock event is too much when looking at long-term reliability. i think there are plenty of forum members that are eagerly waiting the release of a reliable and effective twin pump setup. i could probably turn it up another 4 or 5 psi on pump gas i would imagine. i read here the greddy turbos get lose their efficiency after 18 or 20 psi. i guess we will see sooner or later.

I personally don't feel confident w/ the reliability of one in-tank walbro running the fuel feed at higher boost levels on the GReddy kit, but that's not why you can't efficiently run big boost on pump gas.

Two 18g turbos create significant fuel demands, but it's not a fuel supply issue at 20PSI. It's a octane point issue. At 20 psi on pump fuel, ignition timing has to be decreased by so much to avoid knock that power gains diminish greatly. So, lets say instead of making 10whp per each additional psi, the difference between 18 and 20 psi was only 4 whp gain. That ends up only being a 2whp per each additional psi. You follow?

Without going into a ridiculous amount of detail about fuel/ignition tuning, basically more fuel cannot always satisfy the demand of air. It's the available octane that is critical...and that sometimes isn't even enough. I hope that's what you were eluding to.

Twin pumps will make a lot of people happy...high power happy.

Ha ha...but how about that Midori exhaust! That thing is amazing! Totally off topic, but I had to say it. You motivated me to raid the savings account Chrome!

Its all good and thanks for explaining 'used'. It makes much better sense now. So the twin pump is no longer top priority. Just an added level of safety down the line when I get some more $$$. Can you say hello Tax season.

No doubt!!! Now that the car is pretty much complete, we would like to test it in all venues; drag, track, and show. it might not be the best in any one area, but i feel like it could be the the most well rounded. first up is a trip to a dynojet since most members here dont consider the dynapak a valid dyno for some reason or another. after that off to the drag strip. i don't expect numbers that would put me in the top ten on the drag forum, but this is a g35, full weight. nothing will be taken out of the car, including the stereo setup. then hopefully the track they are building in jersey will be hosting track days and i can test my left/right skills. this is the dream, and i hope it all comes together in the next year or so. stay tuned!!!!!
