I didn't see a "knock amp" that you listed as your purchases or in Sam's list of available products. What is that little box?
Also if I missed it you got a version of the 800 - not the 880, right? Looks like all the "upgrades" are for the 880 (telemetry, more memory, more injector drivers, etc)...
Very interested in this for the future for a complete carPC integration project...

We'll see how well it works, but I have to run now, and will hit you guys back up soon.

Much appreciated. Should be a huge education experience, and I hope my hours of preparation will help in smoothing thigns over. There is always that X factor though, so you never know.

It is sensitive to high rpm noise, and to calibrate it you need to adjust the **** till it triggers on actual knock. And the trigger is just on/off, I had asked for a voltage output that scales with knock severity but was told it was not possible. So at best you can use it to trigger a fixed ignition retard on knock, which might be good for a failsafe device, but I have not found it useful for actual tuning (personally I use a older gen HKS knock amp w/ headphones).
On the knock unit, there is more to the story.
The KnockSenseMS puts out a square 5V tall signal, so yes, on first glance, it's an on-off signal with no knock intensity information.
But...... if oyu talk to the inventor (Boris), he will tell you that hte knock intensity is conveyed by the duration of the 5v signal, which last a minimum of 20ms for a single knock event, to 200ms for high knock levels. Guess what, Motec can be configured (and IS on my unit) to read the pulsewidth of a given signal (not duty cycle but actual low or high pulse)...on dig 1-4 channels. So, this on my ecu is configred for 0-100% knock intensity on one of the custom user channels, which is then later used as the x-axis for knock correction (in the appopriate custom table)... Voila.... The only thign that remains is proper configuration of the bypass.... and not sure if you knew, but you can change the capacitors on the board to further narrow the signal... This is just for failsafe purposes, we are going to be using something far more trick for tuning... stay tuned.

We really have enjoyed working with Gurgen on this project. He's a quick learner and has taught us a few things! Gurgen's attention to detail and analytical approach has made his the ideal kind of customer to work with and we're stoked that this is all going so well. We're glad to be his MOTEC dealer.

Thanks very much for the very kind words. It's priceless to have the support of someone with your level of sophistication and experience in engine management (and engine mechanicals in general). Just want you to know that I truly appreciate it. I can't wait to tune the car in the next few days, and finally get to play with the real toys to realize my goal of having the best-tuned car that is humanly possible. Thanks again, and have fun in Montreal, will see you when you get back (don't work too hard).
Awesome hopefully you get that thing tuned soon. If the traction control is really does a good job and actually helping put power to the ground and making tcs/vdc a tool rather than an interfrence than the extra money for the Motec is well worth it over the F-Con. Also controlling the VTC is a huge plus!
I'd love to see some more pics of the EMS unit installed.
Looking at your pics, with that autosport harness, reminds me of the pain and agony it took to get my stupid a$$ greddy EU to work...
in any case, big props for trying something new. That is my kind of project!!

I'll post some pics soon, now that I am prepared to remove the fcon completely.
A quick update:
Will be tunign the car this Saturday, will keep all posted with a detailed write-up of our findings. Clint and I were messing with the Lmabda control settigns, and idle fueling/compensation tables.... and I gotta say, with GTm cams (which granted are very good at idle) we got hte car to idle INCREDIBLY smoothly... .I do not recall my car being this smooth except when it was BONE STOCK and NA. Unbelievable. I love the MoTeC!
Huge thanks to Clint (THX723), you are the man, buddy!
