Default What to get before going Vortech?

I want to eventually get a vortech for my car. I would like to know what Things I should consider getting In prepration for the supercharger. I am already getting a koyo v-spec rad, borla exhaust, (maybe headers), stock cats and an oil cooler.

Will a 5/16 plenum spacer work with the vortech?

Im hoping to have around 380hp at the rear wheels, with a very safe and conservative tune that I can drive pretty much year round without worry.

I did a search and found lots of good info. I decided that I will get the system and not the kit, as I dont want more than 400 hp. But I couldnt find anything about the plenum spacer.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

-Dan

All NA mods will work for Vortech. You'll just need to tune accordingly.

Not totally true . Smaller light wt. crank pulleys are a no no . Cold air intakes will be a waist of money after the SC is installed

380whp?

1. Tuner kit.
2. 550 or 650cc injectors
3. Utec with map sensor or better
4. boost, AF gauges + whatever else that floats your boat
5. oil pan spacer
6. 3.12 pulley
7. new plenum or spacer
8. decent exhaust with hfc's or test pipes.
9. 1 step colder plugs
10. walbro 255lhp
11. GTM pulley mod or timrod belt fix or both
12. good tune

that should give you a nice 360 to 390whp depending on the dyno.

Smaller and lighter or just smaller?

Can you not run the stock sized UR pulleys with a vortech?

I would suggest a true-dual exhaust as well. If I remember correctly, the Borla is not. But I could be wrong.

nice title there chuck!! haha is sean aware of that one??

the borla is a true dual, i pretty much hate that exhaust, it comes in like 16-18 seperate pieces and is all clamped together.

go with the evo tt , injen true dual, or the HKS hi power....

i have the hi power and true dual always in stock, sharif has the greddy evo tt if you need one...

nexx pretty much summed it up. The only thing i see as an issue is the Timrod belt fix will not work for the new vortech pulley layout for the non revup engine. Im sure the bracket could be modified to work similarly, but theres alot more work involved. I think the GTM pulley mod might work well.

I got 338whp on sharif's heartbreaker dyno. It was with 440cc, walbro, utec and tuner kit with test pipes. Otherwise a stock car with 60k miles. If you hit a dynoject with the 3.12 pulley you should be well beyond your 380whp goal.

If you must change your crank pulley, go with the same size diameter pulley. A better route might be to get the fluid dampener pulley. Itll help with the harmonics and vibrations from the sc.

im really looking to get more than 350hp and not more than 400hp. Do you guys think that the tuner kit is really the way to go? I am also worried about CARB exemption with the tuner kit. I live in CA so I will still need to pass smog. This will not be a big horsepower car so I decided to get the best sounding dual exhaust. Which is the borla IMHO. I figured that the full vortech system would be the easiest, but Im no expert.

Thanks for all the info so far!

Get the tuner kit, use the money you save to get better components listed above. My tuner kit came with a CARB exemption #

I did the 3.12 pulley/255 walbro fp/ utec/550cc inj/strup headers/stillen td exhaust/hfc's and a great tune yielded 390rwhp & 351tq.
Do all your boltons first, you will be happier with the results.

The list that Nexx made is right on the money. Except for the GTM pulley mod or Timrod fix if you want to conserve some funds. I'm running the new non-revup belt layout and no belt slip to date . But if you have the money why not?

Anyways, as for mods to complete now, here is my list:

- Plenum or spacer
- Headers, test pipes & exhaust
- Clutch & Flywheel
- Engine Management (i.e. UTEC or FCON if your a baller LOL)

These mods with Nexx's list later will easily get you around the 400whp mark. Let me know if you have any other questions.
