Default Build help required

Hi guys,

I have just collected my car from my tuner for run.

build specs:

APS twin turbo (run on stock motor for a year)
Tall boy plenum
Arias extreme duty pistons
Eagle rods
BS stage 2 cams ,springs and retainers( no other head work)
Carbonetics 3 disk carbon clutch with lightened flywheel
Tial 38mm external waste gates
APS 3.5inch DP and 3inch exhaust

We are using the standard APS management and fuel system(including old tune) for the run in process.

will be installing the haltec ,APS extreme fuel system and carbonetics diff once run in complete.

the car currently struggles to idle consistently (seems rich and unable to hold idle at the factory 700rpm),switches of when I came to a stop.there does not seem to be any boost leaks.
will the stock ecu addapt as it was unplugged for a while?

should i have the idle increased by the dealer?

only issue so far is a oil leak from the turbo oil drain pipes that will be addresses tomorrow.

Any help will be highly appreciated.
Apologies if these issues have already been covered.

Are the cams too aggressive? If they are you'll have to raise the idle to keep it from stalling out.

its the 264 degree cams .

I am hoping that an idle bump will be the solution as when it stalls its a bit hard to start up immediatly.

Definitely bump up the idle, highest you can go is 940rpms. That's where you wanna be.

your idle problem should be resolved with the addition of a more capable EMS.

I will be installing the haltec once run in is complete.

the tock ecu runs idle and off boost conditions at the moment.

I think the ecu needs time to compensate for the lower compression of the built engine and the effect of the cams are cntributing to the problems.

its rather embarrasing having a nice car that tends to die in traffic

i doubt it will ever adapt to the conditions it is seeing... at least not to the point it will be smooth at idle

Our 69 Cuda would do that until we figured out what was wrong with it. And you could tell it shut off since the exhaust is so loud.

as if my luck cannot get any worse.

I was taking the car in to the nissan dealer and I get this ticking sound that is getting progressivly louder in a span of about 200m, so I switch the car off on the side of the road and had the tuner come and tow it.

oil level and pressure seemed fine EGT's were normal, coolant level was fine.

souned almost like bent valves, I have only put on 53km (break in Km's on this engine).

I hope it's nothing too serious.

well compression seems fine and the valve clearances are good.

engine was turned over manually and it seems that the noise is coming from the front right hand side of the timing cover.

Check the tensioners but I've also seen a car make a similar noise to what you're hearing and it was a rod that was bent. Sorry, but you may need to do a tear down. That crap tune may have cost you.

Great News. Did it cost you anything or did the builder fix it?
Good Luck. Let us know how it rides. And your Butt Dyno results.

only driving the car in for now did not even boost it but it feels really nice the clutch is a dream (very soft after the brake booster modification).

we have crap fuel here in south africa and we at 1500m above sea level in Johannesburg but will let you guys know the figures once the final tune is done with the Haltec.

I am hoping the external wategates help hold boost better than internals

most of the stuff was bought from Injected performance in the states which i picked up when i attended SEMA 2007.

The guys give good prices and have excellent customer service,I would highly reccomend them.

The external wastegates were fabricated locally based on the APS extreme design as my origional came with the extreme manifolds and I had purchased the 3.5" down pipes.

QUESTION:

Can someone please indicate where the oneway valve that fits on one of the pipes close to the plenum fits, its about 3cm long and has a direcional flow arrow printed on it ,the vale is goldish in colour.
