we have stock block autos trapping 116 to 124 all day.

you will need to upgrade the valve body and probably the tq convertor...

stock tranny is good to around 500whp. any more than that and you will need to contact GT Motorsports for their fully built tranny upgrade....

Jeremy ive been told and read that it is not the rwhp but the amount of rwt that is bad for the auto. Most say do not cross the 380rwt figure or the trans will soon fail.I put on a forged vb and a good sized cooler but no tc as that only really helps lauch and 1/4 times.

So basically if you were to run a measly 400whp/400tq setup..the stock auto with valvebody and tq converter would be able to handle the power without being built? I've seen/read a lot of controversial info on several threads..from people saying 400tq is the max the stock tranny can handle to solely valvebody upgrades being good to up to 500"whp" (equating to more than 400tq I'm assuming on a TT setup)

Well I can tell from experience I don't think the auto tranny can take boost very well at all. I'm at 355whp and I'm having major issues. I plan to build it within 3 months, whenever time is available.

some trannys are weak for sure. some engines are weak.

if you are going to worry about it, i would fix it first. i usually just replace as it breaks for the most part on things..

My engine and transmission are being finished at SGP Racing right now. The fully built racing 5AT is about $4000 plus labor and freight (don't underestimate the cost of shipping a heavy, over-sized wooden freight out of state). There may be a core deposit if you want to swap for an already built tranny. This will save a lot of time and the deposit is fully refunded when they receive a working tranny back from you. All of this depends on the vendor, of course as well.

If you just do some parts, the TC is about $700-$1000 and the valvebody upgrade is about $1000-1300 depending on vendors plus labor and freight.

Daniel

I've had the TT's for about 2 1/2 years and have had the N20 on top of the TT's for about a year. Not sure on the mileage but I would guestimate 15-20K.

Booger...I run consistantly in the 1.7 range.

Sorry for being OT, but since this thread is about 5AT's I thought I would let you guys know that I will be racing my car this weekend and shooting for a 10.8-10.9 run.
JT will be datalogging my runs so hopefully we'll have some good info to share about how fast these AT's can be. Remember my car is a stock block !!!!!

We have seen the clutch packs in the tranny wear very rapidly at 400WHP.This is the level that we do a full build. We also offer full auto tranny builds if anyone is interested.
